I am thinking about visiting St. Lucia and Barbados but I want to know how to do this in one trip. I would like to combine these two islands into the same trip.

Why stop in St Lucia? From St Lucia in 15 min you can be in Martinique. So make your trip a triple. And if you never been to Puerto Rico you get more for your money.
You have local flights from Island to Island but you need to know that not because you have a ticket means you get to go. If they do not have enough passengers you’ll get stuck. Believe me I been thought it. Once I had to pay over $600. Extra and forget about the ticket I already had.
I am not endorsing America Airlines but go to St Lucia AA round trip, then take flight St Lucia to Barbados RT w /Liat airlines. Take boat only a few buck to Martinique, and then your return flight St Lucia to US. Some AA flights to St Lucia even stop in Puerto Rico to even add a free stop over.
Oh! One more, Can I come too? (LOL)

I would do a roundtrip ticket to Barbados & then do a roundtrip ticket on Caribbean Star or Liat to St. Lucia. Liat has a lot of delays...and since it would be 2 different airlines, I'd make sure upon returning to Barbados, you schedule your return from St. Lucia the day before just in case. Barbados has a number of non stop/direct flights from the US...there is also a flight on Air Jamaica that stops in both islands. The flight is only about 45 mins between the two islands. There are different options in which u can obtain your trip, but it depends on how many days you want to spend in each place & the airport from which you are traveling.

It depends where you are coming from. Somtimes there's an airline serving both Barbados and Saint Lucia from where you are flying, so you can go on one route and return on the other. You just add to that a one way flight between Barbados and St Lucia. Caribbean Star Airlines and LIAT offer flights between these islands. Most probably, the airline you take from your origin can add this route to your ticket, or you can purchase it seperately. For example, if you are flying from Atanta, you will find that Delta Air Lines flies to both destinations. You can go to Barbados from Atlanta, then take one of those short flights to St Lucia, then return to Atlanta on Delta Air Lines too.
Here's a list of airlines that operate from both islands:

Air Canada (AC)
Air Caraibes (TX)
Air Jamaica (JM)
American Airlines (AA)
America West Airlines (HP)
British Airways (BA)
BWIA West Indies Airways (BW)
Caribbean Star Airlines (8B)
Delta Air Lines (DL)
LIAT (LI)
US Airways (US)
Virgin Atlantic Airways (VS)
