yes, i have; and to another responder-you didn't go to north Korea through the DMZ-you can't. maybe you saw a house that was recreated but you can't cross the border. through the DMZ, you can get close to the border under the tunnels but they dont let you go all the way because it is blocked off. anyway, you have to enter n Korea through china. Americans and s Koreans have a hard time of this and it basically depends on approval from the shanghai embassy. once you get acceptance you are carefully taken through a very well orchestrated tour. the people on the tour are always with you and you are shown what Kim Kong IL wants you to see. regular people dont see you bc they are scared yes, but even more so, to keep them from seeing you modern clothes and accessories. Kim Kong IL tells them they have the best country and that everyone else is worse off. to see a healthy white guy with abercrombie and a digital camera would blow their minds! the best secret footage i have ever scene of the 'true' north Korea is on Japanese TV. i watch a half hour documentary and its suffice to say that north Korea is messed up! when i was there you can feel the that they are deceiving you but that's just how it is. even Kim Jong Il's supposedly great tour still makes the country downtrodden and sad! go though and see for yourself! just dont let them keep you! bc they can!

If you join the tour group operated by local agent, you can go to Pyongyang, the capital of N-Korea.
But you can't bring in any goods which can be considered "Made in Korea" and goods with the name "Korea".
Because N-Korea(D.P.R.Korea) doesn't admit the nation "South-Korea" exist.

they do accept foreign tourists. but they want you to stay with the group, and only see the things they show you - the monuments to Dear Leader and his achievements. They even take you to a reasonably well-stocked shop, but it only accepts foreign currency, so this is not where ordinary north Koreans shop.
One guy who escaped from the "guides" tells that regular shops have very little stuff in them, and people are plain scared of talking to foreigners.
