Until the 11th century, there was but a single unified Church. The Pope of Rome was an important official in that Church, but by no means the final decision-maker or the overall head of Christendom. There were four others who had equal authority with his, and no one claimed infallibility. The Catholic Church as such began when the Pope was excommunicated by the other four bishops because of heresy. (He changed the wording of the Nicene Creed without consulting anybody else, among other things). Those other four bishoprics are still in communion with each other today, as the Eastern Orthodox Church. They have a better claim to being the legitimate successor to the ancient church than the Catholic Church does.

The Catholic Church was started by Christ through his teaching. The Eucharist was instituted at the Last Supper and St. Peter was placed in charge of the Church after the resurrection.

Pentecost was the birthday of the Catholic Church (the Christian church). It is the only religion made by Our Lord. Our Lord was the first priest, taught the apostles (who becames priests, then bishops) to say the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the Last Supper. He gave them specific instructions on the sacraments, including the holy oils used. He made Peter the first pope when he changed his name from Simon to Peter (meaning rock). This is why popes take a different name when they take the pontificate.

FROM WIKIPEDIA - ARTICLE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH-ORIGIN AND HISTORY

After an initial period of sporadic but intense persecution, Christianity was legalized in the fourth century, when Constantine I issued the Edict of Milan in 313. From 380 on, Christianity was the Roman state religion. Constantine was instrumental in the convocation of the Council of Nicea, which sought to address the Arian heresy and formulated the Nicene Creed which is used to this day by the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodoxy, and various Protestant churches.

The word "catholic" means "universal". It was the term given to the early church representing it's unity in one faith, one "universal" truth. the Catholic church recognizes that the "church" is not a building or a structure but the real mystical "body of Christ". I was formed as soon as the Holy Spirit fell on the believers on the day of Pentecost.

At first, there were no Catholic Church, just christians, who were called this meaning "followers of Christ". Yet, pagans started to convert to, but they didn't want to let go of their pagan rituals and idols. Later, Constantine, joined the true Christians beliefs with pagan beliefs, in order to satisfy the newly convert pagans. This worked and many more pagans started to convert into christians. Thus, that is how the Roman Catholic Church began.

i imagine maximum of them confuse his edit of milan the position he made it criminal for Christians to Worship. in reality Constantine became more effective a supporter of the Bishop Arius and that became why he referred to as for the Bishops to settle Bishops Arius claims on the divinity of Christ verses the Catholic Church's valid perception. Constantine as heritage shows waited until eventually his death mattress to be baptized. yet another element is likewise a number of them were so confident that the Catholic Church is evil that they'll believe any element they listen undesirable actual or no longer about the Church. yet finally in the journey that they were to confess that the Catholic Church is the Church Christ depending they might ought to question the beginning of there beliefs.

I believe it was at the Last Super when Jesus made the Apostles priests. The Bible, not being a historic document, would not necessarily have that in there.

Incidentally, does anyone else find it interesting that Don S says all that stuff but has no email access? Not open for to the truth, Don?

Catholics usually look to Pentecost as the birthday of the Church. See Acts, chapter 2.

With love in Christ.
