yeah, church originated as ppl with common backgrounds and beliefs getting together to discuss their problems and deal with things as a moral center, but now its just a way for a guy to tell us why we're going to hell. some churches still offer useful advice to their followers, but there are too many that just recite things from the bible.

It's complicated because it has a nearly 2,000 year tradition, which has resulted in many, many years of theologians discussing every detail of life and how we should behave. If you want to really understand, and know what Roman Catholics believe, you can look at the Catechism of the Catholic Church, It's available online. It is a VERY long document, but it is divided into sections on everything from the liturgy to family life to things like capital punishment. Because the Catholic Church is a centralized, hierarchical religion, its beliefs are carefully spelled out so that everyone doesn't go along, making their own rules until it's not possible to tell what it means to be Catholic. A lot of Protestant sects don't like that idea; they want to read the Bible and be free to interpret it as they choose to. That's partly what caused them to leave the Catholic Church. Catholics believe in what we call the "magisterium"--that's the authority of our hierarchy-- as well as the Bible, and we also believe in tradition. Remember that tradition was ALL Christians had until the New Testament was compliled, several hundred years AFTER Jesus died. So, it's not a deviation from what the first Christians believed. Instead, rejecting tradition is the deviation.
It's a sad fact that most people, not just Catholics, are not better educated about religion in general, and especially their own religions.
I sometimes wonder what the priest is talking about, but it's because some priests are not good at preaching, not because I don't understand my religion. I'm sure people of every faith have that problem with some clergy as well. Just because you want to be a minister or priest or rabbi, doesn't make you automatically good at public speaking. I think if people read more about all religions, we'd understand each other and ourselves better. Good question, by the way!

Probably for the same reason some people ask why is Chemistry to complicated, half the time the students don't know what the teacher is talking about. Catholics are (in theory) supposed to have studied theology, particularly for confirmation. Whether in CCD classes (Sunday School) or Catholic School. Of course you can lead a horse to the well but you can't make him drink. Same thing applies to people who study their religion.
Catholicism is not an easy religion, but not many religions are. Priests and Ministers can try to educate a church but a person needs make an effort himself.

Catholicism is complicated because:
- The infinite God as He has revealed Himself to us is complicated. After 2,000 years we are still trying to figure out the Holy Trinity.
- The teachings of Jesus are complicated. How easy is it for you to love your enemies, including the people who flew airplanes into the World Trade Center?
I disagree with your statement. I think most Catholics know what priests are talking about.
With love in Christ.

There is a difference between Religious ritualistic worship than there is a Bible based teaching worship. Catholics worship rituals. They have idols or Mother Mary and so on. Protestants do not. One of the 10 commandments is that Thou shalt not make any graven images of what is in heaven. The Catholic churches are loaded with statues. The Bible also teaches us to pray through the Lord Jesus Christ. Catholics pray through Mary. The Bible is for Christians of all walks. We must all be careful to not stray from the Bible.

What do you mean "complicated?" I don't believe I've ever had a problem. The homily may be boring and some priests may be confused, but Catholicism isn't complicated for most of us.

It never ceases to amaze me how people continue to remain BLIND in the church of their fathers, no matter what amount of educational attainment and experience they may have acquired in the process. Such is the common problem in religion today called BLIND FAITH.
It is the classic case of the "blind leading the blind" and multitudes remain in Darkness...
Here's a simple advice to those who have TRUE FAITH, COURAGE and PERSEVERANCE: The moment you have ANY DOUBTS about the teachings and doctrines of your own church, that CANNOT PROVE satisfactory answers to you, LEAVE IT NOW and don't even bother to look back!
That was the "Voice" of the Good Shepherd calling for His lost sheep...
Seek and you shall find. Listen and you shall hear. Open your eyes and you shall see. Knock and the door shall be opened for you.
Peace be with you!

Because they don't ask the right questions? They're not paying attention? They get distracted?
Sometimes just being there is all that is necessary.
Let the words flow over you and be good.
I think it's necessary for a good society to have good people in it.
Nothing complex about that.
It's not the words or the rituals. It's about the people and God.

all religions are like that. the rank and file don't know squat.
Every religion is a mess, and all the doctrines comprise huge amounts of literature. so don't feel so bad if you're a catholic, at least the catholics have nice churches. Some religions have churches that look like junk.
