I am Protistant but I would say if it is true it would be out of ignorance...Catholics believe in the deity of Christ and salvation of those who accept Christ sacrifice as atonement for there sins. They are without a doubt Christians I do not agree with everything they believe and that is why I am protistant but I do agree that they are true Christains and I can think of a ocuple of religions that claim to be Christian that are not. Now I will tell you of my one time when I was having serious financial problems and was out of work..I began calling different churchs to ask for help many of which if you are not a member will not help you...others will refer you to some place that may give you a few can goods....but I contacted this one Catholic church and told them of my trouble I was not asked what i believed I was not asked anything except if I had enough gas to make it to there church and told if I did they would geive me back the money and groceries....these people asked for nothing and invited me to there church and bought a large amount of groceries from the grocery store and loaded them in my car....they absolutely touched my heart as a reflection of what God would have his people do...I have nothing bad to say about the Catholics although if I were to think about it I might think some of my own Protistant people could learn athing or two about what it is to be Christian from these people.

That's an interesting question; one that wouldn't have been raised maybe 500 years ago. The Catholic Church wielded an immense amount of power following the fall of Rome in the 5th century. The lack of a central authority (Rome) created a power vacuum that the Church easily filled.

Unfortunately, the leaders of the Church were just a susceptible to human vices as everyone else, and we all know what happens when someone has absolute power (he is corrupted absolutely). A string of scandals in the 11th & 12th centuries led to calls for reform, eventually resulting in Luther and the Reformation.

If you also take into account the psychological warfare of Inquisition, the Church starts to look more and more like the bad guy. Intolerance has been a hallmark of Catholicism (not to say that other religions are free of this).

Things seen as NEGATIVE in any religion/denomination are focused on by the media and by society. This goes for pretty much anything such as government, marriage, social organizations, etc. Anything that goes against what someone else thinks or believes is usually a target whether it is right or wrong. I am not Catholic and I don't agree with a lot of their practices. The biggest thing that has recently clouded the reputation of the Catholic Church is the sexual crimes committed by the Priests.

because no where in the Bible, (the only form of the word of God) does it mention anything about Catholicism. Christian and Judiasm were the only religions, everything else was considered paganism. Worshipping Mary she was a person saved by grace, She was not God, God said there is no God but Him, statues were not erected in the Bible to pray to, that is called idolatry and that's what Catholicsm is, worshipping man(the pope) and woman(Mary) There is only 1 way to the Father and that is through Jesus Christ only

Because most people think they are a joke. If it wasn't true they wouldn't be picked on. Ever hear a Polish joke? I have all my life, but I have never heard a Russian joke or a Swedish joke.

Because Catholicism has the most followers and a well-known, long-term history. Because it's so well-known, there's lots of ways to make fun of it.

Because they picked on and even eliminated other beliefs and religions in their day.

At least they dont have to worry about their ways of life and beliefs being taken away from them on pain of death.

I think it is because it is the most known world wide, and because it has said yes we have made mistakes instead of hiding them.

My other answer is..........for the same reason Micheal Jackson gets picked on.

when a question is asked about catholic preists raping little boys and you are offended, it is as though you are saying that raping boys is part of the catholic faith. nobody is picking on the catholic faith when they ask about priests who ARE molesting little boys!!
