Some would. Some wouldn't.
Catechism, which means learning, is now called Religious Education.
All know that Jesus is the Son of God.
With love in Christ.

Well, first of all, it's "catechism", not "cathecism". Secondly, it is a very intense study guideline on what Christianity is all about. Having been born into the Roman Catholic Church many decades ago, and having later in my life wandered about in protestantism, I might compare catechal classes with the protestants' vacation Bible school, with the very big exception in that catechism and catechal classes are much more focused on specific issues and involve great study of the Roman Catholic Bible and the traditions of the Church with regarding the clear understanding of the Bible. I must admit that the predominance of Catholic Churches here in America have fallen by the wayside in their "laissez-faire", "new age", "devil-may-care" "interpretation" of the Bible, and so the magnificence of the catechal classes have lost a lot. That is why I am so very clear about calling myself a ROMAN Catholic and avoid like the plague associating with the label "American Catholic", which is truly conflict of terms. But then that's not the issue you asked about. Yes, this Roman Catholic very clearly knows what catechism is, and has known since way back in the 1950's when I was first enrolled in Roman Catholic schools. God Bless you.

As with everybody else, some Catholics are smart and some are dumb. Some are educated in their religion of birth and some are not. So without a doubt, you will encounter people who say they are Catholics and not know what the cathecism is.

By cathecism, do you meet Canon Law as preserved in the Vatican state? The answer is no. That is the responsibility of Catholic clergy, specifically the bishops.

He or she should but you must understand that for years CCD programs were a feel good joke. There are positive signs that started in the last years of Pope John Paul II The Great and continuing under Pope Benedict that this is changing. By and large we have a Conservative United States Council Of Bishops so things are getting done. The newer Catechism Of The Catholic Church is a great resource. I just celebrated thee 19th anniversary of my becoming a Catholic,

Some will know and some will not. First of all, its spelled "catechism." And what it means is a text which contains the fundamental Christian truths formulated in a way that facilitates their understanding. There are two categories of catechism: major and minor. A major catechism is a resource or a point of reference for the development of minor catechisms. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is an example of a major catechism. The Baltimore Catechism is an example of a minor catechism.

Catholics born in the 30s,40s, 50s and 60s would probably know what the term catechism. Many of us memorized the Baltimore Catechism- which was the principle book of instruction for Catholics.
For example: Who made you?
Answer: God made me.
There is a new version of the Baltimore Catechism. (c. 1994)

One should only answer for him/her self.
And, yes. I do know what the Catechism of the Catholic Church is, and how to use it. It is the teachings of the Catholic Church, and a reference tool for clergy and lay Catholic alike.
It is a must-have for any Catholic household. It deserves a place of honor next to the family bible.
The Catechism is widely accessible, both in hard copy as well as electronic media.

The Catholic faith is very beautiful.
Sadly, some are Catholic by name only and know little or nothing about their faith.
This is also true for many Protestants except that a Protestant might know what their Protestant sect teaches but because the Protestant tradition teaches "faith alone" they might not believe that it is necessary for them to do anything else that Christ commanded of us to do (faith and works). Or because the Protestant tradition teaches "bible alone" they can totally misinterpret scripture when they read it outside of the context of the traditions of the Church that that the bible came from.
Jesus says that those who are lukewarm will be spit out.
