I have a new toy that uses a 7.2v 500 mAh battery pack. The charger outputs 7.2v at 250mA. I am not sure what kind of battery it is.(probably nimh or nicd) What is the maximum amount of time that I should charge it to avoid damage to the battery?

man, thats a hard one.... if i were you, i'd look for a charger that will stop charging once the batteries are full. i got one on ebay for about $30 and its made all the difference in the world.

Given your battery and charger info the website below calculates about 2.4 hours to charge.

Dude, just get a charger that stops autmoatically. NIMHs can be fickle if you don't charge them right. Also, get one that charges both types, and no worries!
