A cult is a religion that is secretive. A cult is a religion that selects its members on its own, rather than allow outside interested ones discover it for themselves. A cult is a religion that meets only behind closed doors, possibly due to illegal activity. There are types of cults, such as suicide cults, where members all dress in a certain way, meet on certain days of the week, and ultimately commit a final act, such as suicide, or some other act that is, to the outside observer, irreverant of life. If a religion offers the chance to research it, or even attend one of its gatherings, openly to the public, it is not a cult.
