One breed that is touted as being perfect for living in apartments is the Bull Mastiff. They can be large, but they're incredibly lazy animals. They don't require a lot of exercise, don't generally demand your constant presense at home, and don't feel that they have to bark at every sound they hear.
Mine have proven incredibly loyal, protective when they feel it's necessary, loving, companionable and gently playful with me. They house broke surprisingly easily and seem to understand the various moods of my life. They don't mind the time that they spend alone, and are of course always happy to have me come home. I am always amazed at how much more intelligence they seem to have, over my other breeds of dogs.
Bull Mastiff's were originally bred to knock an intruder down and hold them in place until their master showed up to deal with it. So they're not bred for attacking or even biting, but they can sure make the threat of those things seem real to a bad guy.
It's something for you to consider, at any rate. Good luck.

Black Lab, Chocolate Lab, Yellow Lab...it doesn't matter. My chocolate is the best buddy a girl could ask for. He is always happy, loves the ocean, loves to get in the outdoor shower (no wrestling him into the tub for a bath), but most of all, he loves people and EVERYONE loves him. Old and young flock to this 100lb puppy. I take him to any public place and he has a circle around him. Cool dog! You can have any size dog in a flat, you just have to be motivated enough to go out and walk it every day. Even little dogs don't like to be cooped up all day long.

I would also suggest a cat if you have a busy life style.
. if you get a dog and it will have to be a small one, which results in a small bladder meaning more trips out to the potty.
Test yoursef: pretend you have a dog already take the trip outside every hour and stand there for about 5 minutes and then make the trip back. I would do this for a week or two weeks everyday and see if you tire of it quickly, if so get a CAT.
Remember if its raining, sleeting, snowing a blizzard a hurricane , your sick with the flu this dog will still have to go out.

Depends on your lifestyle. Different dogs have different needs and requirements. Eg. some may need require more physical exercise than others.
First think about how much time you can and are willing to spend with the dog and then based on that do research on the different breeds, personalities, requirements, etc.

You should get a poodle because they are small, energetic, playful, smart, and cute but unless you dont like small dogs then you should get a lab or a retriever theyre also energetic, playful, very smart, and loyal.

Italian greyhounds and greyhounds are really good apartment dogs. You can check the American Kennel Club website, I think it's AKC.com.
