My best friend does Eng lit and RE. She likes them but says the style of writing for english is very different and much more mature. They study Dickens and ''A Streetcar Named Desire''. RE is a lot of hard work she says, with lots of notes and learning of Bible passages, but they get to discuss moral subjects as well.
I wouldn't recommend RE personally, as it is not particularly useful for getting a job unless a minister or something :-S. Me, I chose Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Art. I like all of them except Physics which is awful so I'd say stay clear! AS maths is quite easy so if you like it at all I'd recommend it.
Hope this helps!
Good luck with your choices.

Well, I am currently looking for things to do to try and distract myself from doing what I should be - revising for my final A Level History exam (which is tomorrow!!!)
I have done English Lang., History, French and Media at A Level, and to an extent, have enjoyed them all. Evidently I liked French the best cos I'm doing that at Uni next year!!
I can't really comment on English Lit., all I know is that if you like reading then go for it - if you are more interested in the analysis of actual language then go for Lang. History is interesting, although it's tough to advise of specific studies cos there are soo many different specifications on different exam boards.
I did OCR at my school, which meant in Yr12 that we studied the Conservative party in Britain in the 19th Century and also Germany 1919-1939. I found Yr13 more interesting actually, cos one module was a coursework assignment where you choose whatever topic you want and write a 3000 word answer to your own question. That was probably the best part of the course. Exam-wise, I've just done one last week on Roosevelt's American and tomorrow I'll sit a paper on US Civil Rights 1870-1980.
There is a lot of work to do, but it is very interesting to see how relevant most of the stuff you learn is to today's society!
Good luck and enjoy your huge long post-GCSE summer!

English lit is great if you like reading and finding the meanings behind things, it's all about understanding what the book is trying to tell you, i did it and got an A, it's lots of hard work but if you enjoy the subject you will be fine. Religious studies is ok too, very heavy going thought make sure you remember dates when you do exams, the same with history, when i did it you can pick which areas you wanted to do for your exam but that was a while ago now. They are great subjects and not that much different from g.c.s.e so if you like them you will be fine, they are just a bit harder but thats to be expected.
good luck with them x

ive heard from a friend that English Lit and History can be demanding at a level but if you enjoy them like my friend you will be making a good choice and will enjoy it. I think in History you learn more about other countries' histories rather than just Britain's history and in english lit you have to look at more advanced pieces of literature.

Sorry, not sure what GCSE is. English literature at the University of Utah was divided into American and British literature. I think you could do a whole class on Mark Twain. Have a good day.
