I ask this not through paranoia but through reasonable suspicion and a long line of what i will refer to as "coincidences". Are my concerns totally unrealistic (the person in question probably feels they have more than enough reason to do it!); are such things restricted to hollywood films? I have seen bugging devices advertised in various places- some @ very low, affordable prices. Am i spot on, barking up the wrong tree or just totally barking?!? You tell me! What do any of you KNOW about bugging/listening devices?

It's remarkably easy, take a look at the following website. Someone would need 5 minutes alone and a bit of money thats it.
Good luck.

It's relatively easy to bug a house / office, especially if you have access to the building as it only takes a second to hide a small device in a good position. Does the person have access to your home? If not, could they / would they break in and plant devices? Do they have access to adjoining properties as often access can be gained through the roof space / over the garden wall etc.

There are two ways you can see if someone is bugging you, either buy a scanner and sweep your home for devices or spend all your time discussing with yourself how your going to kidnap the person in question, detailing when and where and then invite them to the planned place - see if they turn up / panic!

For a visual sweep, check inside smoke detectors, under desks / tables, inside lampshades / light fittings, on cupboards or in any nook or cranny which is pretty close to where you spend much of your time (no use bugging the spare room / toilet!) and be methodical. If you were bugging the place, where would you hide them.

Alternatively, you could ask the person how they know certain things, it's more likely you have a wide mouthed friend than a house full of bugs.

You can contact a company that locates such devices in your house, look in the Yellow Pages. Its very expensive and in most cases illegal to plant such devices unless you are a person of interest to the FBI.

Well i AM paranoid and often wondered this myself!

Best thing to do is (far-fetched version) Do lots of illegal stuff or fake a murder, and see if the cops pay you a visit!
Or walk around the house looking at the mirrirs/cracks in the wall etc saying i know your watching me or

Realistic version.....get someone you trust and both of you check out every inch of the house and see if you come across something

Give them something to hear.
If they want a story give them one that is so rediculous that they will look like fools for telling anyone
But don't tell anyone else.
When the gosip gets back- you will know.
Talk about your sex change.Your plot to kill them. The child never seen that is locked in the basement. The stranger the better.
Or a more reasonable choice:
Talk about going somewhere neither one of you would normally go and see if they turn up there.

Yes its possible. I also suffered from these coincidences too. I made arrangements with a friend to discuss a fictitious 'episode'.

It was overheard and mentioned by the 'bugger'. I moved to a house with better security/double glazing etc. Not happened since

Bless you, its not a nice place to be when your sanctury is no longer that.

weird. It is possible, yet unlikely. Most spy gear available is for bugging and recording, say, your own phone. Instead of playing detective and mucking about, perhaps you should contact the authorities.

That or just make a tin-foil hat.

I know they are easy to come by and easy to hide. It is possible if this person has come into your house. Although I think alot of the ones you can buy at the stores, are low quality, and the person would have to be near by.
