My favorite hobby is to take pictures and I think I'm very good at it. I mean, I take very good pictures (I have been told so by many people). My dream is to work as a photographer but I have no idea how to start. Any ideas or experiences? I live in the U.S.
Thanks!

It is very difficult to work as a photographer, and the more experience you have the better! There are so many ways to go about being a photographer. One way is to become a photographer's assistant and then work your way up to becoming a photographer. However these jobs are very difficult to find, and they also pay very little.
Another way is to go to School for it, either a state university or private art school. But picking one out is difficult as well. As you want one with a good reputation and good photography department.
However the alternative is working at a portrait studio. They require little to no understanding of photography or the studio. They will train you, and you will gain a better understanding of photography, especially the business side of it.
Freelance is another alternative. However working on building up connections and a reputation is very important to being successful!! Starting off as an assistant to a freelancer would prove to be more valuable.

However I think the best thing would be to take courses at a college. And then intern or assist. Most jobs want experience so interning or assisting will help.

i would say get a decent camera you are comfortable working with and can use the functions well.... then start small... tell you frieds you wanna make some money in photography... start with the simple stuff... for 30 bucks ill take pictures of your kid sisters birthday party.... or something along those lines... then once word gets around, put out some simple business cards... soon enough you will have crowds of people at your door waiting for you to take their picture (lol)........

im not an expert... but thats what i would do
