My friend's male cat, jake, always takes her twin sisters pairs of socks, from all the way upstairs and brings them down. They he just starts howling. No one know why he does it. I was just curious. He doesn't make any noise any other time. He hardly meows. Please let me know so I can tell my friend.

smelly feet! j/k it may be a separation anxiety type deal, is your friend's sister away when this happens? My cat howls when I leave according to my fiance, he doesn't take my socks though. Jake may take the socks so he has her scent around him.

Maybe (I am not for sure) the cat thinks that the socks are his kittens or something (Male cats can be just as protective over kittens as female, depending on the enviorment they live in) and so when he takes them downstairs and the socks don't move, he knows they are dead and then he howls. Or maybe he just has a thing for socks, I don't know

He probably has a reaction to the smell of her feet. I had a male cat that had a thing about my ex boyfriend's foot odor. He was all over shoes or socks that had been taken off. He would roll on them--didn't do that with anyone Else's shoes or socks.

He wants you to play with him- cats love socks- mine try to pull them off while I am wearing them. I always find socks that have been taken out of the laundry in other places around the house...

I have no idea, but my cat does the SAME THING with my husband's socks and with my belts or hair ribbons.

She looks really freaked out and howls when she walks around w/ the sock/belt or ribbon in her mouth. I think it means she wants to be around us b/c once she sees who evers item she is carrying she will drop it and turn "normal".

I think the cat believes it has captured something live. Those socks must smell mighty good!

Her socks smell bad so he brought them away from everyone else to save themselves from the smell

As a few have said, foot fetish! lol. A lot of cats have a thing for smelly feet/shoes, etc. Our cat buries her nose in my husbands work boots after he takes them off. Yuck!
