Beau is french (one of the most common words actually), and the pronunciation is like "Baw", like in "dawn" , or "Boh", but it depends on your accent.

The word "Beau" is a french word and is masculine and is used to describe males when calling them beautiful in the french language. Your dad is pronouncing the word beau correctly in the french language and you are also pronouncing it correctly but as and english speaker would pronounce it. So in the end you are both pronouncing it correctly. :)

Please allow me to correct something in your question. Beau in French is an adjective, not a noun and certainly not a name. It means 'handsome' if it is used to describe a man (masculine, the feminin is belle), and beautiful if it describes an object like in Beau Rivage (beautiful sea front). It is pronounced 'baw' in French.
