with pay? are u insane? wow, do like I or my coworkers did, pump it like anyone else.
Geez, maybe they should give parents the summer off with pay cauz their kids aren't in school.
Just because someone chooses to nurse their baby doesn't mean the place they work should suffer for it. If someone makes this choice then they should find a way to deal with their choice and make it work.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and presume that you meant corporation, not cooperation...
I don't believe that any employer, corporate or otherwise, should be expected to pay an employee to stay away from work for 6 months simply because that employee chose to have a child. It's part of planning parenthood to incorporate the careers of the parents into the responsibilities of parenting.
Not only is this an unrealistic economic burden on the employer, but it places an un-necessary burden on the woman's peers. Additionally, it is discriminatory against those who either cannot, or choose not to bear children.

As far as I'm aware, no corporation does allow a six month paid leave to accommodate breast feeding. FMLA affords only so much time (I believe it's up to six weeks with complications) and some companies only allow one week of paid compensation for maternity leave. After that you're either burning up your PTO time or unpaid. I do know that companies are required to accommodate breast feeding women only so far as to allow them a private area to express.
As a new mom myself (ok, will be on Monday) and a business owner, I'm not going to hassle anyone about their preferences of feeding their children but I am not willing to take on the responsibility of having them out of work for six months due to their preference either. Nor would I expect my clients to have to tolerate that.

Absolutely unfair. Why should she get paid leave that she didn't earn - just because she made a choice to have a child? Unless everyone else is going to get 6 months paid leave for any reason they wish - it should be up to her and her family to work it out how they'll deal with their decisions financially.

I think you mean corporations. And no, if a mother chooses to breast feed, she has two options. A: quit work and breast feed her young ling. 2: bottle her breast milk via breast pump and have the child ingest it that way.
