I want to know, what are the differences in what they believe?

In the bible it says not to worship false idols. Aren't the people who freak out about the pope and kiss the ground he walks on and stuff sinners?

same ........ Catholic means christian..... Cathlocism was the basis for all religion and with all things that start out good, man eventually perverts it. I believe that Catholics and Christians all have some element of truth within their doctrine, but on the other hand each has their own faults. So I won't say which is better...yada yada yada
That's like trying to compare apples to oranges. As long as the person is a Born again believer they can differ on the fine points of religion.

and AJ GET A LIFE!

Have you heard of this? If so why do YOU sat it????
The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Catholics are Christians. The pope is the leader of the Catholic Church. The fact that they have a central leader makes them different from the other Christian groups which have either a commity or no central leadership at all. They don't worship him. The just pray for him like other Christians would pray for their family and friends and he is praying for all the Catholics. They have crosses and stuff up in their church but so does everybody else. I don't see how that's idolatory. They believe they can pray to people already in heaven like saints and departed people they love but they don't consider that worship. They only worship God but will pray to him as a father or holy spirit or Jesus (the son), this is the trinity or the 3 forms of God they worship but it is all the same God. Some protestant groups believe in the trinity and some don't but it all sounds like a lot of semantics to me.

Catholicism is a branch of Christianity. I've had some Catholic friends deny that they were Christian, which is just not true. I'm not a Catholic, but the big differences with protestant Christianity (I consider myself non-denominational, but protestant) is that Catholics believe in the authority of the Catholic Church, the pope, bishops, etc. They also focus a lot more on sacraments (baptism, first communion, etc). They also place more importance on Mary than protestants. Catholics also believe in saints. Protestants believe more in the authority of the Bible as God's Word.

It's obvious that you and MANY of the people on here have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Catholics DO NOT worship Mary, Catholics DO NOT worship idols. These are ideas that they and you have been taught by Protestant religions that want to keep you from the true faith - and the only Christian religion started by Jesus Himself. All Protestant religions came almost 1600 years AFTER Jesus lived, and were started by MAN. Protestants are closer to David Koresh and the Branch Davidians than they are to Jesus Christ and his Church here on Earth.

Catholics only worship the Lord our God and Jesus Christ his only Son. They ask for intercession from Mary and adore her, but they do not pray TO her or worship her. She is the mother of Jesus, and as such has a close relationship with her son. We only ask her to "put in a good word" for us with her son. Rosaries and statues are merely focal points to help us think and concentrate on our Lord and Savior. Just like looking at pictures helps you think of your relatives.

If you want to know more about Catholicism, the original and true Christian religion, go to your nearest Catholic church and talk to a priest. I'll pray that you learn the true way to God and Jesus.

I'm not sure what this alleged "freaking out about the pope" business is about, but I don't think its got anything to do with the Catholic Church. Kissing a bishop's ring is not "pope worship" - it is a sign of obedience, which St. Peter asks us to give in 1 Peter 5:5. And conversely, just about every bishop or archbishop I've ever met was too humble to ever permit anyone to kiss their ring. My bishop tells a story about Pope John XXIII, who, when he met him, was too humble to allow people to kiss his ring.

'Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: "God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble."'

Obedience to a bishop is not worship - it is humility. For Jesus says, "But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first," and "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

And I cannot believe any Catholic - current or former - would assert Catholics are discouraged from reading the Bible, because Vatican II's "Sacrosanctum Concilium" declared "The treasures of the bible are to be opened up more lavishly". And since it exhorts the people to keep the Divine Office (a liturgy that basically would have you pray the entire bible once every three years)... well I'd have to ask anyone who suggested that Catholics "don't read the bible" whether they've ever even MET an actual Catholic.

Well the Catholics worship idols, do rosary, practices idol processions, prays to saints, follows the pope which is supposedly the vicar of Jesus and is infallible, does relic worship, prohibits marriage within their priesthood, calls Mary the queen of heaven, believes she is sinless...
Born Again Christians doesn't do all those. We stick to the Bible and not man made traditions.
I suggest you read the book called Mystery Religion Babylon by Ralph Woodrow and read Isaiah 44

Your question is not a good question. You see Catholicism is a form of Christianity. What you should have asked is what's the difference between Catholics and Protestants?

The difference there is that Catholics rely on priests to intercede to God for them and also have faith in the Pope. Protestants believe they can talk directly to God and don't follow the Pope's teachings.

Catholicism is the original Christian religion. It began when Jesus left Peter in charge of his church here on Earth. The Catholics can number their popes all the way back to Peter. The other Christian religions began over 1,500 years later when Martin Luther deviated from the Church's teachings and created the Protestant movement.

Christianity simply refers to the belief in Jesus Christ.

I'm a Christian but no longer a Catholic. I don't believe in the Pope. He is not my leader.

I don't believe that holy communion is actually the miracle of Christ's body. I believe it represents the body of Christ and we do that in remembrance of Him.

I don't have Confession with a priest. I go up to the front of the Church and ask God for forgiveness of my sins. There is no priest involved.

I read the Bible. Catholics are not encouraged to read the Bible. They just listen to the priests who interpret it to them because they don't think we are educated enough to read the Bible.. I go to Bible study. Catholics don't have Bible study.

Catholics have Confirmation. Other Christians don't....)(

Catholicism is a "branch" of Christianity. In terms of differences...the real question would be what are the differences between being Catholic and Baptist or Presbyterian or other "sects" within Christianity
