who decides the size of eggs? small and medium look alike so do large and extra large.

There are standard sizes that have been in existence a long time. Eggs drop through holes that are predetermined sizes called sieves.

Whether or not an egg is labled small, medium or large or extra large depends on the weight of the egg.

yeah, you are absolutly right, And sometimes the people at the supermarket just load up the cartons with all left over eggs that did not sell. the other day the large were on sale, of course they only had one left- 2 were broken so I put xlarge in the box, I am an egg freak, I love eggssssssssss!!
