Absolutely not. When I have chips and salsa, the chips are in one large bowl, while everyone has their own individual smaller bowl of salsa. I raised a son to adulthood, and now have the care of my five-year old nephew. In teaching him about health and hygiene, I believe in teaching him by example. He is learning now not to drink or eat after others, not even his own immediate family. I even have to remind Grandma not to offer him food served from her plate or eating utensil.

These are practices that I maintain in the privacy of my own kitchen, as well. For instance, if I am cooking and I need to taste the food, I use either a clean metal spoon or a clean, single use plastic spoon or fork. Never do I taste from the utensil I am using to cook with. Unbelievably, that is a common practice among people who cook rather casually. That mistake ends up in their contamination of the food that they may serve others with the contents of their mouth. How is one to determine if that scratchy throat, full-blown cold, or intestinal virus that a guest develops in the coming weeks was transmitted by one's lack of consideration.

If I am sharing with no one - yes.

If I am sharing with others no!!

I would not like others gunk in my food - so I afford them the same courtesy.
