Do yourself and your dog a favor and get some flea and tick medication like Frontline. Having a tick obviously means they are in the dog's immediate environment, so why go through that again? Just get some medication so you and your dog can be tick-free.

Dogs get ticks. One is never all there is. What you should do is to apply a good flea and tick spray or power. There are several. Frontline and Advantix are the more expensive. They are used every month. Adams spray and Adams powder are excellent. They are to be used every week. I don't know if they have anything for ticks, however but they are excellent for fleas. If you do decide on Advantix or Frontline or Frontline Plus, it is much cheaper to buy it at a PetsMart or to order it from Doctors Foster & Smith, the pet catalog than to get it from your vet. Your vet charges top dollar for the things that he sells. At least the one here does. Your vet will tell you that you must have a prescription to order the Frontline and Advantix from the catalog. This is not true. Mama orders the Frontline Plus for Rascal, her long haired dachshund and she does not have a prescription. Frontline also comes in a spray. This is what I use for my shorthaired dachshund, Little Bit. However, she doesn't like it. The last time that I used any on her, she disappeared behind the loveseat for 4 hours. However, she did get sprayed. If you are unsure of the best flea and tick preventative (something that prevents fleas and ticks) for your doggie, please go to a pet store that you trust and ask someone who works there. If you don't know anyone, the people at PetsMart will tell you which is good for your dog. They are not trying to sell a particular product like your vet might be when he maybe suggests the Frontline.

She could well have more. Check her over. Dogs pick up tics untill about september so regular checks are advisable. Use a tic remover to remove them. Dont burn them off. Always make sure the head has been removed.

i say there will be more. fet some frontline. it's weird but i get three ticks a year, that's it-three. then it usually stops. just in case though, i get my dogs the lyme diease vaccination to protect them. you can help avoid ticks by not walking dogs in areas of woods or dense vegetation. they make sprays for inside of your house and for the yard as well.
