It's a metaphor. Means doing something poinless. Swine have no use for pearls, now do they. they would have absolutly no understanding of their value.
The idea is, there is no point trying to explain or exuse yourself to someone who has not the desire or even the means to understand you.

exactly what it sounds like.
pigs don't know what to do with pearls. they would probably eat them and then you've gone and wasted some perfectly good pearls.

If you have something valuable - intellectually or physically - there will be people who don't get it - have no respect for it. Don't bother exposing it to these people they will only trash it. I can't see you avatar really well, but it looks like you have two heads.
