When I was in the hospital for my C-section, they gave me 50mg of benedryl and 20mg of predisone. That didn't seem to work, as the hives would go away and come back the whole time i was in the hospital. The hives lasted for 8 days. They sent me to see a dermatologist on the 9th day and the hives were gone, except for the bruising left behind from them in my legs. The DERM told me it is probably from my pregnancy and if it lasts more than 6 weeks come back. Its been 5 weeks now, and the hives have come back over the last week , progessing more and more. My lips swell up and i look like Angelina Jolie. My hands and feets sometimes swell and the hives will come and go usually lasting all day and then go away the next. Last night they were all over my body, hands were swollen and this morning my arms just ACHE bad. (But no HIVES) It hurts to move them.. I'm supposed to try Zyrtec next, but i just dont think its going to work..
Any suggestions on what to do?

I dont think its anything i ate or environment. I was in the hospital for 4 days and it didn't help. I haven't changed anything as far as detergent or soap and stuff like that. My husband gets up with the baby at least 3 nights a week so i can sleep and he works at 6 a.m. I had people come over the first week when my husband had to go back to work.. The reason she told me come back if i still have them after 6 weeks is then they are considered Chronic.. Maybe i should just smoke some chronic, that would probably help.. LOL.
Anyways.. I just started back to work 2 days ago and i broke out it hives at work and I started crying.
Its really starting to get to me and the depressive attitude bothers me and my husband. But who wouldnt get depressed with hives like this..
The ARM ache and shoulder pain really gets me, whats the deal with that?

Zyrtec will work. If it doesnt Allegra will. I had hives like that no apparent cause, nothing OTC worked. Benedryl didnt even touch it. I went to the doc he said that there isnt a gurantee that i will ever know what caused them. He put me on Zyrtec, and I havent had them since.

Living with hives for 6 weeks is pretty bad. I think that doctor is making you wait too long. Have you changed laundry detergent, fabric softeners or dryer sheets recently or has someone else been helping you with the baby? Maybe they are using something different or some air freshener or something that is triggering you. Stress can be a trigger but after 6 weeks I bet it's something in your environment, something that is a recent change and it might be something small like a bar of soap.

Zyrtec worked well for me as well. I tried taking the over the counter benadryl, but it made me too sleepy. Zyrtec may take a little while to start working though - I think I started feeling better after 48 hrs and the hives were completely gone after a week.

usually pregnant women gets hives, (due more to stress and hormones than allergic reaction) but they subside after birth as your hormones level back off.
Ive never heard of them being this bad. Personally i would assumes youre not only stressed about the baby and everything that brings, but youre making it worse stressing over the hives, which feeds them.
Do you have family that can come and stay with you for a while, untill you can get into a nice routine a settle in a little? if it were me, i'd have my mom stay until i was back together again.
i'd be interested to know what they determine is causing this.

Same thing happened to me (not when I was pregnant thought)...I went to the Dr. and he told me I was having allergies and it was releasing through my skin....the hives....they gave me Clariten and I got a shot (which gave me instant relief)...mine went away and haven't come back....Maybe you should see an allergie doctor and not a dermatologist. Good luck sweetie.

What are you allergic to? What sets them off? Are you breastfeeding, because it always helps everything to do cleanse, by eating lots of fresh, raw, oganic fruits and veggies and fresh squeezed juice and tons of water to flush your systm out.
