No dog if you are gone all day. It's really not fair to the dog to be left alone the majority of the time. It'll probably bark all day and annoy the crap out of the neighbors.

I suggest going to the local dog pound and searching or petfinder.com pure breds are nice but there are great mixed breed dogs that can be just as nice too a small dog under 20lbs is great for an apartment

A bijon Shitzu. They are small, friendly, don't make a lot of noise (at least mine don't), and are easily trainable. You can play with them in the apartment (I throw the teddy bear in my apartment, and the dogs never break anything).... and when you take them out they love to go for walks and to run.

The cocker spaniel breed would do good in an apartment. But like any dog, it will need to have a chance to burn its energy off.

I'd go w/ a small dog like a mini yorkie or a mini poodle. The upside of a dog like a poodle or shitzu is that they don't shed either.

Either a very small dog, or a very large, lazy type of dog, that requires and wants only short walks, and does not like to move much. Sort of like my neapolitan mastiffs.

A stuffed one , since even the dumbest hill billy knows dogs belong outside not inside your home.

any dog can be good in a apartment. it is all in how you train it i had a st.Bernard in one once and she was a dream. she would lay on the floor at my feet. and i have had small dogs in them also it is how you want them to act and behave.
