He has adopted an ingenuous "Gosh folks, aw gee" persona as an interface with the public. We must assume he is at least average intelligence as a graduate of Yale. It was not his idea to be president--a group brought this to him. We must consider who is the employee and who the employer when thinking about Rumsfeld and Bush. The group is strong on advertising: their first moves in the first GWB election were not about ideas or attitude but "All the money is on George". We are now in a war of advertising; in a real war there are two opponents and a specific goal; in this military adventure the opponent is a concept, "terrorism". It could as easily have been "humanism". A police action limited to Afghanistan would have been appropriate. Since we cannot trust any public announcements without verification ( an old Reagan phrase-Trust but Verify) we should consider what is actually done, and can only speculate about what the various goals are. ((Notice that two weeks after Walmart had a "problem" with their janitorial service-locked into the building at night and ninety percent illegal workers--the pres announced he favored a guest worker program)). Most of the U.S. military has been removed from Saudi Arabia, at the request of the Princes (and distant suggestion of Bin Laden). Rumsfeld and Cheney have expressed glee at their discovery of the "ambiguous status" of the base at Guantanamo. It is possible that they hope to create a Guantanamo of the East in southern Iraq-not too far from shipping and near the middle of Arabian territory.
To get back to your question; I don't think he has much feeling either way about Islamic people. Some-one in the government is no doubt following the situation in East Timor, but it is deep in the stack of things to worry about.

My take on GW is that he is a "dry alcoholic" who never got counseling for his drinking problem. What did he do? He swapped religion for booze, and kept on trucking!

I don't think he hates Islamic people, but Iraq was on his agenda, and now he's having trouble finding his way out of the mess he made in the Mideast.

http://www.newamericancentury.org/ Please notice how many people involved in PNAC are or have been pivotal in the current administration.

My personal belief is that the president is not supportive of the abuse of Islamic people per se, but that he has no problem at all with abuse and torture in general, as supported by the fact that he tortured and abused animals and his brothers, as a child.

East Timor? Darfur? Somalia? What do these mean to him? Geroge has a hard time playing "Find Your Foot", OK?

dubya's biggest problem is thathe has a one track mind...he got so focused on "kill the terrorist" that all he can see is a terroist around every corner....and yeah he may have done a few good things, like getting a megalomaniacal dictator out of power (hussein) and kill a few crazies who were hurting innocents.....but he couldn't stop there, he just kept going and now things are beyond his control, and now HE is the one costing innocent lives... and now he wants to trample on our civil liberties for our own "protection".....i belive it was Thomas Jefferson who once said "he who would sacrifice liberty for security deserves neither"...i think that is something we all need to remember next election

Some people lead. Others complain. GW is in the first category. You are in the second.
