It's actually a really current area of the law, but in many states grandparents are being awarded visitation rights and even custody of their grandchildren!
When dealing with issues involving children the Court uses the standard of "what is in the best interest of the child"? And lately, there has been a definite trend toward the court realizing that having that familial connection is better for the child than placing the child in foster care.

Grandparents are an important part of the family. They're the symbol of unconditional love. Grandchildren need their emotional support.
But responsibilities in bringing up the children lies on the parents of the child. Therefore, the role of a grandparent is better be passive, otherwise there will be conflicts of two bosses in the house.

Not much legally unless the parents are deceased.
Some courts have ruled to allow grandparents visitation against the parents wishes but it is a brutal situation.
If the parents are deceased the grandparents can be awarded custody legally by the courts.
I hope that helps you. Not knowing the details makes it hard to respond.

yes in many states there have been laws made so that the grandparents can see the children if the parents are just refusing the children to see them it usually ends up in court as the grandparents have to be checked out so the kids are safe

I think that since they are the "grandparent" that the parent & child should take their advice on alot of things. But...sometimes grandparents go a lil' too far! I think the parent has main control over the child.

It has recently become law in my area that grandparents have some rights. It has not been tried and tested in court. It could get pretty frivilous.

obviously they have....let us suppose, if they were not there, how would your parents come on this earth and if your parents would not be there for you then how would you see this world....it is as simple as that.
So, always respect them. Yes, they can be a bit irritating sometimes as there is a generation gap between us but we should take this with ease and love. Once you will start loving them they will love you more than themselves.

I believe that to a certain extent you do. Depending on the situation and if it is in the best interest of the child.
