Well, it's certainly getting trendy for students to buy more adult gifts for their teachers like bottles of wine and stuff. That being said, is it a male student? Is there a chance he has a crush on his teacher? How young is the student, too young to know better? Or is it a female student who just thinks her teacher is really cool or glamourous (or is so desperatly nerdy she needs lingerie, LOL!) Use your "intuitive feelers" as it were to try and get a further grasp on everyone's feelings. Most likely it's an innocent gesture and the teacher can graciously say thank you and spend it wisely. Otherwise, there's no harm in giving it back and saying, "Thanks for your thoughtfulness, but this really isn't approriate." The teacher is the grown-up here and needs to set the example.

If a gift makes the receiver uncomfortable - the gift shold be returned.

An intimate gift, such as this, from a student no less, should always be returned...

I would suggest saying, "Oh, what a loverly gift! You are so thoughtful! I am sorry to say, I cannot accept this gift though... My boyfriend / girlfriend would sure be upset at me!"

I wouldn't involve the parents or school admin, unless the student does such a thing again.

Good luck.

As a teacher one should not accept any gifts from students. Politely return the gift with your eyes doing all the telling that "you will be in trouble when you do it next time"

Return the gift certificate and tell the student that you dont think it is appropriate for him/her to give such a gift.

There is a very thin line between being "friendly" and being accused on misconduct in the classroom. Remove all doubt by returning that gift.

Use it, unless its a male teacher, then thats just a little creepy, or give it away. If someone was willing to spend money to buy it, I don't think it would be right to go out of your way to get that person in trouble for it. Yeah it seems inappropriate, but I guess it could be taken as a compliment.

I would not accept it and I will think it is very unappropriate and that the student Maybe could like you very much. Maybe it's a message like , teacher , I want to have sex with you. Don't accept it, and talk to someone about it.

It depends on the motive and the gender of the student and teacher.

the teacher should request a teacher / parent conference and advise the school administration of what has occurred and have them sit in on the meeting as well
