Yes!!!!!!! I truly believe this is what's wrong with the USA today. Falling away from Jesus Christ. Too many people with the attitude like the first person has that answered. Too many people putting theirselves before Christ Jesus.

Religion isn't the only way to try to make your children grow up to be decent, upstanding people who help society. In fact, children learn a lot more about morality by watching the examples that they are given by their parents. As long as the parents are doing a good job of teaching their children about what is right and what is wrong, then there is no need to take the children to church as well, and the need to go to church can be decided on by the child's parents.
If I ever have children, then I would teach them to be open-minded and accepting of other people, and help them learn about as many different religions as possible. That way, they can choose whether they want to be involved with a certain religion later in life when they can make their own choices about belief. The last thing I would want to do is indoctrinate (read "brainwash") a child into believing that there's only one true way to go about things.

No. People can be taught to be good citizens of any society without knowledge of God and church.
It does not seem probable to me that teaching children about a god that once demanded the destruction and murder of entire civilizations, murder of children, chose only one group over all others, and many other atrocities, can really help in making them decent and law abiding citizens of our society.
In actuality, I think we would be better off if we taught them that people once thought God was like that, but now we know better.
If a person wants to find God, they will... even if nobody ever tells him/her that god exists. Not to mention... if God wants somebody to know something, he's probably capable of getting that knowledge out there without the help of mere mortals.
Goodness doesn't require the belief and worship of anybody's god. Goodness is a choice people make every moment of their lives. Some of the best people I know believe there is no god at all... they have taught their children the same thing... funny thing about it, their children are the best behaved, intelligent, and loving children I know. Some of the worst children I have ever known were the children of devoted theists.
Just because your personality is such that if you didn't believe in a god who will punish you in eternal hellfire for the wrongs you commit in life, you would be a cold hearted sociopath doesn't mean everybody is that way.

In a nutshell - I don't know that they'll turn out to be sociopaths - but they will be cold hearted - ever wonder why morals have decayed, why there's no respect for elders anymore, why manners have all but vanished, why people are kind to their neighbors or sick ones on their own blocks if they even know the names of the people on their block? Take out God and all we have is Satan running free and on the loose - that makes for an Evil place to live = so actually they probably will turn out to be sociopaths.

Teaching children about god and taking them to church has created sociopaths, not prevented them. Go check the number of crimes done in the name of "god".
Teach your children common sense and respect for all living creatures instead.

No, but if they turn out to be good people, it won't be BECAUSE of their atheistic education but IN SPITE of it.
Seriously, if there is not God, we can't even say whether our actions are moral or not (since everything must be relative because there is not lawgiver).
No God = no moral laws, only chaos (which means that it's OK to kill human beings, because there is not such thing as the sanctity of human life).
Try to explain to someone why they must do "the right thing" or even what the right thing is without making a reference to God. You'll end up with stupid things like "it's Okay if it doesn't hurt anybody" but will be unable to explain why it is so (remember, no God so no immutable moral law). Somebody could tell you that he does not believe it is so and you could not prove him otherwise.

No, you're raising a society of people who pray for their lives to get better, rather than making their lives better themselves if you DO teach them about god and take them to church.

We are not raising society; society is raising us. Get with it. Society is raising us, and the laws of physics put restraints on us. As for sociopaths, whatever gave you that idea? There aren't very many sociopaths, com'on. As for church, that's boring. Next question please.

I have never been to church a day in my life - I beleive that there is something but I don't think that going to church is going to make a difference in my after life. I was taught love and care by my parents who showed me that everyone needs to be loved (people and animals) and no one wants to be hated
I was also taught not to force a religion on a child - when they gte older they can choose

I have the right to raise my kids to my beliefs and give them an education that lets them question for themselves rather than follow someone else's dogma. The beliefs you have are just your opinions of what is right NOT fact.
If they want to follow ANY religeon (or not) when they are old enough to understand what they are doing then that is OK with me ... I'm not going to scare them into compliance with a belief system.
In answer, no.
