The Belgian Malinois is a wonderful dog. Great with families, protective guardians, easy to keep well groomed, and very quick and easy to train. They are quickly becoming the preferred breed for police work here in the US.

Belgian shepherd dogs come in 4 coat varieties: (1) Malinois - short fawn coat (2) Tervuren/Tervueren - Long fawn to mahogany coat (3) Groenendael - Long Black coat (4) Laekenois - Wire haired fawn coat

Due to the popularity of the Malinois for Police work, you can often find fully trained young adult dogs as well as puppies available for sale. Adult dogs trained in obedience and protection can range widely in price depending if they are imports or domestic (US) dogs, how much and the type of training they have received, and if they already have working or show titles.

Puppies also range in price depending on whether you want show, working, or pet quality.

Here is a link to puppyfind.com were breeders advertise puppies they have for sale. I have also provided a few links to importers and trainers of adult dogs. I personally recommend Oklahoma K-9 Academy. Rick and Wolfgang at Oklahoma K-9 are top notch. Fair prices, top quality imports and domestics, and a great training program. Rick is a seasoned police dog handler and a really nice guy. They also do rescue work, which is how I was introduced to them.

I hope this answers your question. Good luck with your new dog!

Belgium should be your best bet... Within the U.S the best star would be a large AKC dog show,
