My little 7 year old chihuahua has an eye infectin and is constantly almost closed, I bathed it for him with steralised warm salty water, but it has not made much of a differance. The vet is closed till monday, does anyone know of any home remedies or a name of something that perhaps could buy from a supermarket?

my dog has what looks like conjunctivitis,i have had drops from the vets before, and they were just the same as what doctors would give us.In fact on the packet they were intended for human use.As my dog seems to get this quite often i just buy 'Optrex-infected eye-drops',this seems to clear it up.As it only costs around a fiver it's a lot cheaper than the vets.Hope this is useful.Just don't tell the chemist it's for your dog or they wont sell it you.

The poor guy probably needs some antibiotics to sort out the infection. All you can do is continue as you are or find an alternative vet that will treat over the weekend.

Bathe the eye gently with cotton wool soaked in boiled cooled water to remove the stickiness and wash your hands afterwards to stop infection spreading. Two thirds of cases will clear up after about five days, but antibiotic drops or ointment, prescribed by your vet, may be needed.

There are several methods to improve quickly and naturally eye sight.
To know how to do that you can find here a complete method based on researches done by some scientist, for a cheap price ( http://getyourvisionbacknow.keysolve.net )

I can give you just some tips but I suggest to give a look to the method that i posted above, for example you can take more food that contains vitamin A such as carrots may help to naturally improve your eye sight.
We can also always do exercises. There are exercises such as rolling your eyeball to form an invisible square that are always recommended by the doctors to improve one's eyesight.
I don't know about quickly as there is no fast way to reach one's goal.

Vegetarians can help to improve one's eye sight. I believe it because I am a vegetarian and my eye short-sightedness power remains the same without any increase after about 2 years.
The doctor was shocked because teenagers at my years will usually have a most increase since we are always watching TV, playing computers and also reading.
I do not know whether it is totally true or not but it does affect a bit on the result.

Bathing is necessary to clean away the discharges, bathe with cold water or a diluted solution of boric acid made up for opthalmic use, obtainable from a pharmacy, followed by the application of an eye ointment, prescribed by the veterinary surgeon and squeezed along the inside of the lower lid. If there is no improvment within 48 hours consult your vet.

go to rite aid or a pharmacy and ask them for some Boric Acid. It works great on people for pink eye and styes. You take a quarter of a teaspoon in a shot glass and put it in then fill half way with luke warm water, what would feel good to you. dip a cotton ball in in and squeeze the cotton ball when you rub it over the eye. do it two times a day. the boric acid costs about $3.00 and usually clears it up in a week

it is best not to apply any medications into the eye without a proper diagnosis. certain antibiotics can damage the retina if the eye isnt intact; plus, certain anti-inflamatories can exacerabate an eye injury (sometimes even to the point of perforation) if there is a corneal ulcer present. instead of applying medication, it is most important to prevent self injury as dogs often rub and scratch at irritated eyes and can make things much worse. an elizabethan collar works well under such circumstances. if the eye is cloudy or red, it is best to see a vet ASAP, simply because some (but not all) eye problems can become blinding without proper or prompt care. if there is an emergency clinic in your area i recommend calling them. i appologize for such a long winded answer, but as i veterinarian, it is far too often that i see inappropiate therapy rendered by my clients that have resulted in more damage than healing. should you need any other questions to be answered do not hesitate to write back....good luck

Vets have a system for people who need help out of hours, the same as doctors. Just get a pen and paper and phone the surgery. If they're shut they'll give you another phone number to ring. You wouldn't be expected to wait if he'd been hit by a car. They're often open on a Saturday morning anyway.

No! wait until you can see the Vet. You might be doing more harm than good.

If the problem is caused by an ingrowing eyelash or grit, nothing you bathe the dogs eye with will help and could be causing more irritation.

there are vets that open for emergency cases over the weekend if the poor thing is suffering get on the web and search for one in your area but cold tea bags or milk might help to soothe it, he will probably need antibiotics for this though or he might have something in his eye that needs a vet to remove it.
What ever the case could be hope the poor little thing gets better very soon
