All believers in Jesus Christ should certainly study the Bible for themselves. Those who do study know that salvation is through grace alone. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Of course, if they don't diligently study, they could fall into thinking that their salvation has something to do with "good works"--which the Bible is clear cannot happen. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ.

Christians are not saved because our pastors told us so. I have no confidence in man. My trust is in God alone read
Romans 10:9 For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Titus 3:5 He (God)saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit.
this is how a Christian knows salvation.
I know my pastor does not think he is saved because someone told him. If I never read Einsteins theory of relativity how can I hold a competent argument on his works.
If you studied the Bible a little more you would not need to ask this Question. I am always willing to talk with some one but first have a knowledge of what you wish to discuss...... Messenger

LOL! Great question! Got the hypocrites you-know-where! My experience has been that when Christians actually READ their Bibles & figure out for themselves what they're reading (as opposed to being told what to believe) that:
1) Most must leave their churches because their churches are so WRONG about most issues (in light of the Bible itself ... I.E: The 'GAY" issue...See Gal 3:28 & http://truluck.org for more ).
2) Discover they're not "saved" based on the Bible itself (I.E: Acts 2:38-39)
- Great question!

hmmm, i wonder who you are talking to...
Christians, are followers of Christ. to be a true Christian, you need to read your bible, to even know HOW!!!
i think the term you were looking for was:
"people who wear the t-shirt "Christian" but have no idea...
or.... Watered down "christian".
You should probably watch how you phrase things :-)
right here, you got yourself a dedicated Christian who reads there bible daily, and seeks God for herself.... and i also listen to Pastors and Preachers as well, as many of them have soooo much wisdom from God, it would be stupid not to hear about what God has to say from them.. as long as you go in your own time and "see if these things are so" (ooh look a bible quote, haha). There needs to be both. more personal time but.

I agree but not with the animosity and disdain. It is difficult thing to discern the truth from fiction at times...yet the Bible (truth) warns us about "wolves in sheeps clothing"..who will lead people astray. There are many areas of scripture that have been looked over or ignored by mainstream christianity as passed down through mans traditions as taught by the early church that have no foundations what so ever in the Word of God. (pauses to take a breath) For instance...I challenge each one of you to look up these basic facts.
1. Are we under the law? Yes...mass scripture says it.
2. Who changed the Sabbath to Sunday worship?
3. Was Jesus born in a barn? No.
4 . Was Mary of Magdalene a prostitute? Nope.
5. Is Hell a place of eternal torment for sinners and the lost? NO!
Hell is the grave, death, destruction...not torture in flames of burning sulfer infinately for sinning in a finite universe.
6. Do you go to hell when you die or to heaven...? Niether. You don't go anywhere until the resurrection.
7. Do you have an immortal soul? No..only God is immortal. Soul means individual being not the same as "spirit". Two different words and terms never used together.
8. The number 666 will not be stamped on your hand or forhead...
9. What does the bread and the wine signify?
10. What about the food laws such as not eating pork? Does that still apply to us?
11. Holidays? Christmas, Easter and Halloween? Pagan, pagan and pagan...
12. The Trinity Doctrine? Where does it ever describe this in scripture?
13. The devinity of Christ? Is He really God? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? Yes, you bet!
14. Baptism...necessary for salvation no matter what?
God gave each one of the oppertunity to have His Word in our very own hands and we are emplored with over and over again not to put our trust in man or ourselves but by every Word that proceeds from His mouth. I tell you, friends...you have been lied to, misled and decieved...not always with intention but the purveyance has been passed down. Believe it or not...Jesus says to trust and obey...Trust in His blood and obey His commandments...If anyone would like further study on this please let me know...I have mass scripture reference supporting all my views...scripture only along with a Hebrew lexicon and a dictionary..thats it...email me...love in Christ, ~J~ <><

they are brainwashed from birth. talk about stupid people breeding....some of them believe that the world is barely 6000 years old and deny factual scientific findings. aside from that they are not even really christians. if the "man" jesus(no more a child of "god" than any of the rest of us)did exist what he was thinking and tried to create was NOT what they do today.real christianity teaches "where ever two or more of you will gather there ill be"and that buildings were part of the false idol thing and that to really be with god you must be IN what he created......definately a great topic............me personally i suppose that im pagan, wiccan or what ever you want to call it and i dont for i minute claim that i know anything for sure, but i think as i get older my idea is getting stronger

Just who are you to say who does or does not know their Bible? I do not take any persons word for anything, unless it is word for word in the Bible. Man kind can translate the Bible, even Jesus said work out your own salvation with trembling and fear:
You should "judge not" least thou be judged, and by who's authority doth thou judgith?
We are not saved by mans words, but by the shed blood of Jesus Christ, which was shed on the cross for the redemption of the sins of all mankind.

Why do you think we know nothing about the Bible. We are encouraged to read it every day. In what I consider truly Christian churches, we bring our Bible and follow along in it, as the pastor is preaching. You are truly misinformed.

Romans chapter 10 pretty much sums it all up.
Starting at verse 9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed".

I am not saved by my Bible. I am not saved by my pastor. I don't think that I am saved. I believe that I am saved. It began as a choice. My faith has grown stronger with time.
