I lost a stone last year after hard exercise and dieting, got to my halfway goal weight of 9st 7lbs at Xmas and should be about 8st 9lb but however much l exercise and diet (something l have not stopped doing in the last year) l cannot lose the extra 10lbs!. Now it's summer and l thought l would have succeeded, l've tried changing my aerobic exercise to cardioboxing which is helping the toning but l gained about 5lbs (muscle?). I take diet pills which helps me to stop over indulging and have a 20 min walk to and from work on top of my keep fit l do 3-5 times a week - 6 months on and still no results !. I will never starve myself, but what can l do? Please help !!!! (p.s, l'm 28, 5ft 2" and generally healthy..but still a few pounds over weight!). THANK YOU

Hi all, thanks for the quick replies, l'm so impressed !. Just to add, l don't drink much alcohol, 2 -4 units a week at the most, can go for months without drinking, l wake up with headaches so that stops me even having one!. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries when l was 21 (l was 12 1/2 stone at this point - huge!!), things are better now but have no idea if they have cleared (doctors are not interested in finding out). I've read that women with this condition should try and cut back on carbs, something to do with sugar intake like people with diabetes. Anyone with this condition that has had problems with weight loss?. I was never given any medication or help after my Laparoscopy, just told l had hundreds of tiny cysts all over my ovaries, great !. I assume they have virtually cleared now though, but may be another little reason why l find it twice as hard to lose weight compared to friends and family?. Thank you everyone, you are big massive stars ! **********

sounds like you've hit the dreaded 'plateau'.... your body is smart. it has a mind of it's own. it takes the easiest path and doesn't like to constantly change meaning it has become accustomed to your workout routine and to the effects of your diet pills. it has lost it's effectiveness.
now, you have to SHOCK your system so to speak to break out of this plataeu and continue to make gains in affecting your body chemistry.
one thing i can suggest is that you don't care toooo much about your weight but try to find out your body composition. while doing cardioboxing which is GREAT! you may have reduced 5 lbs of fat in your body but gained 10 lbs of muscle. good trade off in my books! but try to reduce the weight yet increase the intensity.
i would also suggest trying interval circuit training.

Difficult question. You're doing everything you can. Your body basically, thinks you need that "reserve" of fat to provide you with energy for all that exercise. Try to exercise evenly. Don't burn loads of calories at one time. Eat regularly, even a protein snack. Don't worry too much about what you actually weigh. Your fitness and shape is important. Muscle looks better than flab! You will start to lose weight again - give it more time. Stick to a calorie controlled diet. Keep up the exercise but not too much. Eat a lot of fibre to suppress your appetite. Use exercises, that exercise all the muscles too. I used to find cycling the best for that! Have your health checked out by a specialist - get refered to a specialist at hospital who has the equipment to check you out properly. General practitioners, generally, just guess and hope for the best. Some people even say - they are outdated now that the diagnosis of most problems involve scans or blood tests at the very least - and are done at hospital.
Good luck - don't give up, a positive attitude is very important.

Be your own trainer and nutritionist, the basic rules to losing weight are no soda, no fast food, lots of chicken, fish, fresh (not canned that’s bad) fruits and vegies, whole wheat stuff, yogurt. Not so many cakes and donuts and cookies. Basic common sense for eating, you just need to enforce it. Get all the bad stuff out of the house right away, just toss it or give it away while your still motivated. No alcohol and no smoking if that applies. Some juice but make sure its all natural, because the ones that aren't are loaded with sugar and a leading cause in diabetes in children and adults. Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer. Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart. You also need to stay away from any sports drinks unless you’ve just had a long workout and then you need to limit yourself. Most atheletes mix Gatorade with water because its two complex for your body to get all the nutrients out of. It needs to be diluted. These rules may be hard to adapt to at first so start with cutting out the things you know you can live without. Then work from there. Remember these are perfect eating habits, it can take you a while to work into it. If you know you can’t live without your one treat a day, don’t fight it by trying to eat something else, just eat it and make sure that’s the only one you cheat on a day. Otherwise you’ll get depressed and quit. Another important point is getting the right amount of sleep every night. You need 8-9 hours of sleep each night for your body to function correctly. This is an important factor of losing weight. Set up a routine for yourself and go to bed at about the same time each night.
As for exercise, lots of cardio. Find something you like. If you have never exercised much before, start with walking 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace. Move on to different terrains that include hills and increase the time spent. After a week or two, try jogging the route. No matter what find an activity you enjoy. Walking to jogging is just an example, try hiking, rollerblading, biking. Once you get into a regular routine, if your not happy with the level of difficulty, try signing up with a gym. Spinning, pilates or kickboxing classes are great. It will also introduce you to working with weights. Talk to a trainer for instruction before using any weights. A cheap investment is a balance ball, it works you stomach while your just sitting on it, like at your computer and its great for posture. There are hundreds of exercises you can use it for for your entire body. I can give you some ideas if you want, just email me. Also for more info on the benefits of water go to www.watercure.com Good Luck! Honestly if you need anything else don't hesitate to IM me, krista_girl86 even if you don't pick me as best answer, i'd be happy to help. Also check out the website for the tv show The Biggest Loser on NBC. There are many, many helpful facts on there.

I think that your body is a good guide to your ideal weight. Not the actual lists that are printed as the are just averages.
You must be really fit and healthy if you are doing all the above exercise and eating properly. Muscle weighs more that fat which I'm sure you are aware of. You don't mention BMI (body mass index) this I'm sure is ideal for you if you have it checked.
What about alcohol intake??
Good luck though.

Krista is full of crap:
"Some juice but make sure its all natural, because the ones that aren't are loaded with sugar and a leading cause in diabetes in children and adults. "
BS. Natural juices have sugar also. And there's no proven link between juice and diabetes.
"Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer."
More BS. No proof that drinking water is helpful. All this is good for is making you pee a lot.
"Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart."
WHAT?? This is total crap. There is NO evidence to support this BS. (where does she get this?) Your body does NOT need extra water to "pick out" nutrients. What an absurd concept.
"You also need to stay away from any sports drinks unless you’ve just had a long workout and then you need to limit yourself. Most atheletes mix Gatorade with water because its two complex for your body to get all the nutrients out of. It needs to be diluted. "
More crap and BS. The science behind Gatorade has been going on for 30 years and there's NO evidence of any "need" to dilute it. It works just fine as-is. Again, your body does NOT need extra water to "pick out" nutrients.
Don't take diet advice from uneducated 19 year olds. It's full of myth and folklore, sadly lacking in truth and science.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

I lost weight by walking and stretching everyday. You should try that. I know that it seems a little bit too simple but sometimes the easiest thing to do is the best way to go. Trust me I should know I used to play sports all the time but have been inactive for four years and that worked for me. maybe it can work for you to.

You can lose more if you forget about your Gym. and concentrate instead on physical walking for a mile or two once or twice weekly.
