Hmmm, this is a tough one, depending on leash laws, sound like maybe both dogs broke the law. I think I would offer to pay half just because it happened in your front lawn. I dont care much for straying dogs, they can bring diseases and parasites into your yard. my neighbors dog comes in my yard and poops every day for the past 8 years. makes me so mad. my 2 dogs are not allowed across the road to his yard, i respect his land, they should respect yours thus keeping their dog in THEIR yard. so 50/50 on the bill. If he doesnt like this idea, then dont give him any.

Unfortunately your dog did get out of its yard and not sure of leash laws where you live and all but had a similar situation here where I live and the person was taken to court because of a pitbull dog that got out of his cage and attacked another animal. I have nothing against pitbull dogs all animals to me a beautiful but be aware that if this goes to court you may be ordered to put the dog to sleep just because it is a pitbull. Pits do have a bad reputation and its really not fair for them. I would suggest to go ahead and pay the neighbors vet bill to keep this out of court. Good luck.

YES, and you should do something to make sure your dog can't get out of the yard again. If it did that to a person, legally it could be euthanized. And your neighbor could sue you for damages if you don't pay.

You state that your dog got out of the backyard. If he got out, the bill is your problem. Do what's right by your neighbor.

as animals do not know, the lawsand boundries made by man, its natural for them to get into a fight, if they come face to face but to keep the peace between the neighbour and you, offer to pay a portion of the bill, or better still if you are rich pay the full bill i suppose that will build a good relation between neighbours,

If their dog was loose and wondering no you shouldn't,but if your dog was over there and their dog followed yours to your place ,Maybe you should consider paying half the bill, remember there is a leash law.

If your dog was not restrained, tied down, behind a gate or in a position where it could be immediately restrained by you and it managed to hurt another animal, then you are likely liable for damages.

If your dog was beaten and you had paid the vet, will you be looking for money from you neighbour? Search your heart. The answer is there.

If your dog is not under your control, fence, leash - you pay. You can probably make payments.
