The ms words files may be encrypted with by anothe user or software. Check on the details (under properties) in the file to see if therer are encryption info.

your ms word does not understand the format....the files could have been saved by a different program that you are using. try opening with ms works

The words appear as symbols, when the file is currepted or it is of a different format (Such as PDF or whatever) right click on the file icon, go to properties, and if it is not a word file(in .doc format). then open it in the software corresponding to the software.

At first u check your file extension
If it is DOC then your file is word file and it is not open then it

if file extension is different then u find your extension in
google and open with this file that program

the files were probably not from word originally or were changed from something else or the files are corrupt...hope you have them backed up somewhere.

try opening under all files and not just a certain type

maybe u change the words to Arial
