I was thinking:
London Meridian International Airport [LMI]
London Greenwich International Airport [LHR]
However, i do love the London Queen Elizabeth Airport (QEA) - it does have its touch of class to it, the regality, the royalty.

Krusty the Clown airport? I think this does the airport justice and gives an air of the organisation of the place. The only airport in the world I've been in where the staff are unable to transfer my luggage between planes in 2 and a half hours... then you're left queuing on the runway for an hour because of a traffic jam.

Queen Elizabeth Airport is actually quite likely after she dies. There was a campaign to change the name to Dina Princess Of Wales Airport when she died in '97. The other name that would go down well with tourists would be Churchill Airport.

First of all a good idea and a fitting tribute to Her Madge on her 80th Birthday, However in these days of his tefloness and political correctness spewing from all areas, i can not see the current goverment or future goverments allowig this idea, As the queen is also the head of the Church of England, you shall find groups that will be opposed to this as they are opposed to western religions and the outrage levels shall be unbearable by goverment standards. Now i am not being a racist i believe that everyone is intitled to there own belief's.
Also Heathrow is owned and operated by BAA ( British Airport Authorities ) all of the other airports that have name changed in the UK are private airports and can change there names very easily to honour local heroes.
As i said it is a good idea, and one that would find favour with most people including myself, however i feel that it shall only become a Pipe dream.
Please prove me wrong.

Heathrow is my least favourite place on earth. "The pit of Satan's bottom" would chime with my view of the place. However, QE2A (I think you need the 2 in there) would work better for the tourists and would be OK for people who actually like the place. As a republican (in the French sense, not in the US sense) I might take the view that the two ideas are essentially the same. But that would be churlish and naughty so I won't do it.

I dislike this idea of naming Airports after people. They should be named after where they are. For me Heathrow makes perfect sense.
Belfast City Airport made more sense to me than Belfast George Best Airport.
Also Heathrow is now so well known worldwide, to change it would cause massive confusion. Would you rename Coca-Cola just because its a silly name? Would people still buy it.
I'll have a Coke and a Marathon bar please.
