Its a mainstream religion that provides a set of teachings and a code for life, same as (for example) Christianity or Judeism. Its is a path to God, again the same as the other two.

I think that taken generally, followers of Islam take the code of life required more serously than do their Christian counterparts, but maybe that has more to do with the countries in which the religions are active. Historically, after civilization comes decadence, with its brother cynicism. (I could quote the old joke that the US is the only country ever to have gone from barbarism to decadence without an intervening stage of civilization but thats not relevant).

I have a number of Muslim friends who all show that inner peace that I assocaite with a Christain with a well developed relationship with God.

I presume the question is somewhat weighted by the acts of extremists who wish to impose their views on everybody. I don't approve of that, evidently, but a few hundred years ago, the Inquisition did the same or worse in Europe. They didn't stone people to death, thats barbaric. Instead they prefered to burn them alive (which is of course much more civilised ....NOT)

Very Basic, full of grossly ignorant followers and illogical dogma.

Why would God want to tell people not to have sex with their mothers/sisters/daughters - this is what ignorant desert wandering arabs did - they had to be educated in the basics.

Why do so many so called muslims think they have some God given mission to kill others - because of grossly ignorant and blind followers. These people attack others for following teachers and say that they do not have any hierarchy but at the same time follow someone who tells them to go around committing suicide in the hope of becoming martyrs. Well, if martyrdom was so attractive why don't these teachers lead by example?

Why do so called muslims go on a mass stamped to throw stones at a stone pillar in the middle of a desert - what exactly is this supposed to achieve?

I think that Muslims are under so much criticism, not just because of the alleged terrorist attacks that the (extremist) minority carry out, but because of their traditions and ideology too.
Wouldn't it be nice if all religious people, and non-religious people, just let other people with different beliefs get on with it?
I'm an atheist, and hate it when i get someone preaching to me about how I'm going to hell because i don't have faith in God, but i also can't stand those people who constantly criticise and even threaten those people who do believe in a God (many of these people on Yahoo Answers).
I have the same view on Muslims as i do on Catholics, Buddhists, Jews, Sikhs etc etc. That i don't want them to try to convert me, but i am happy letting them practise their religion without me constantly slagging them off, as it is nice to see people find happiness and comfort in something.

It is not only a religion but also a complete code of life with firm belief of one God and therefore the best religion. Sadly, same cannot be said of all of its followers. Many may not know it but Muslim religion teaches about Christ, Moses, David and Solomon and shares many beliefs of Christians and Jews and regards Jerusalem as one of its important holy places.

All religions have a spiritual truth that runs through them as well as man made elements that can be flawed by intent.

It is our individual spirituality and how we choose to live a life that brings joy and happiness into ours and others lives that is important - regardless of which religion or belief we choose.

Maybe then we can stop debate on which is better or worse and live in harmony and peace!

like any religion it is man made to control people. and aspects of the muslim religion (like the woman walking behind and being a lesser person!) is not part of the religion. that is cultural. i've spoke to muslim woman entering into marriage who have spelled this out to their husbands to be. they love the religion but are not willing to go down the cultural route of being the quiet little wifey!!

This is a loaded question. There is nothing wrong with any religion it is how the clergy portrays it to those who follow the teachings. If the Quran would be taught in the way it was meant as it was written.

It's the loose boundaries between muslim religion and muslim governments that worries me more.

(Not that this does not happen with other religions...)
