well from what i remember, i use to get discount tickets from the coupons my mom would order from here car insurance company. i dont know how or why but she would get them by mail after ordering them and they served for all different attactions in los angeles, from the la zoo to universal studios to restaurants.
disneyland discout tickets i havent seen them anywhere else, universal studios yes, those you can find around if you really look, like deals on 'bring the parents, kids come in free' type of thing. the only amusement park where you can really find discount tickets are those for Magic Mountain and Hurrican Harbot. those are ALWAYS listed up on coca cola cans, you just bring them to the ticket booth to get the discount also if you got to hurrican harbor, when you leave they give you discount tickets for you to return, so if you know anyone by chance who has gone there already you can ask.
also besides the amusement parks in los angeles, there are tons of other things to look at. ive already written a list to other people, check the link below.

Universal has discounts at some of the local grocery stores.
Disneyland stops the discounts until after Labor Day, so the only way to get Dland discounts are:
1) Military. Get it on base
2) Costco. $119 for a 4 day ticket but I think you have to be a So Cal person
3) Get your Dland ticket online at disneyland.com. They give some incentive for online purchase, and I think they have a will call window if you are doing this last minute
4) Get an annual pass if you think you will be back within a year. The Deluxe has some black out dates and its the best value. The premium has no black out dates and you also get discount on majority of the food and merchandise.
5) If you know someone who works for a big company, or the County of Orange, the employee store sells discounts.
Tours won't get you into Dland. AND if they do, you'll be rushed.
In addition....
If you have to recommend someone who's visiting LA in the summer we have the beach, obviously.
The Chinese Theater in Hollywood Blvd has the famous hand prints, and if you're in town for a movie premiere, check out the celebrities walking down the red carpet.
LA has historical places to visit and ethnic places like China town and Olvera (little Mexico) Street. You can also go and see the expensive shops on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills or the famous Farmer's Market near the CBS studios.
If you like Comedy you can check out one of the many comedy clubs on the Sunset Strip, check out the Hustler store, and if you are near the Flynt Publications building, sometimes you can see Larry Flynt's limo (you really can't miss the naked woman painted on the limo!).
Further south of the OC is San Diego, which is about 1 1/2 south of Anaheim. Then next to San Diego is Mexico, which you can cross the border and take a day trip in Tijuana.
There's some of the "must see" that I would suggest to someone visiting.

Universal Studios is just okay... and Disneyland pretty much sucks. Both are way overpriced. I'd say just hit the beaches and some cities in Los Angeles. A couple of places in Orange County are all right, but amusement parks are pretty much a waste of time and money doing typical tourist crap.

I just moved to Cali from SC. I was amazed when I went grocery shopping one night and a box of cereal was priced at $7.50. It's hella expensive to live here. I usually go to Great America (theme park in San Jose because I live right there) and I find discount coupons for tickets at local grocery stores or banks. Sometimes Coca Cola runs a special where you get discounts at certain parks per empty can you bring with you. Good luck!
