No. If it happens inside a city and she's a virgin engaged to somebody, BOTH the victim and the rapist should be killed by throwing rocks at them.
"If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you."

k... my answer to your name is... duh.
My answer to your question is: apparently, God wants to sort them out Himself. Where did you hear that? Let's let God have His fun too.
You and I are, apparently, on the same page. Rapists deserve no mercy. I've done my share of punishing them, but I'm guessing you haven't quite felt that feeling yet. IT WILL CHANGE YOU! You don't need to have a lifelong change just because some guy decided to use his height and weight advantage to get laid. Your job, like mine, is to PREVENT RAPES. Not punish them. Get down in the trenches, with the dirtballs, and see what they're up to. Once you've figured out what the score is, give me an email, and we'll talk tips. How to, what to, when to... that sort of thing.
The other night, I prevented a double rape (not to blow my own horn, but you brought up the subject) with a couple of gang-bangers. Not one punch was thrown. They both got arrested (on an unrelated charge) and were back the next night, looking for trouble. Too bad they left before I got there.
You seem to have the right stuff. You need to redirect that energy into something useful. You don't help anyone by sitting in your Lazy-Boy watching TV while someone suffers the worst experience in the world. You get in there and stop it from happening. Let the would-be rapist wake up free tomorrow, thinking, "Oh, my God! what did I try to do last night?"
They will prevent the next one all by themselves.
Added: Now and then comes a thought: This isn't now. Or then. God did NOT write the Bible. This scripture was apparently written in a time when a young lady didn't go un-escorted through the city streets. If she did, it was because she was an outcast, and already sinful. I guess it was God's will that she be raped and stoned for her sins, but I have to say I've never seen it in the Bible, so it's a passage that's really fallen by the wayside over the years. That is, If you were in fact quoting the Bible, Now and Then... Idiot. Use a little common sense, would ya? Y'know, for the most part, the laws kind of go along with the times... They don't always make sense, in every case, but, they make a whole hell of a lot more sense than what you just quoted from Deuteronomy. Think about it. How archaic would that be? Let the one without sin cast the first stone. Ok?

Rape is a crime of aggression against a woman. Women are the mothers of all future human beings. Anyone who rapes a woman is thus an animal or worse. In Islam there is a distinction between voluntary sex and forcing sex on the woman. A man who forces sex on a woman is to be stoned to death. The procedure is to bury the man upto his waist in the ground and then people stone him until he dies and show him no mercy.
Cruel and unusual punishment? Look at the consequences of not inflicting this punishment. A Child is forced to be born or aborted, causing immense suffering to the child if it is aborted for the crime of the man. If the child is born, then the mother and child both pay for the bast****'s actions through their entire lives for the pleasure of a few minutes of the jerk.
Sex outside marriage between consenting adults has the same consequences. If the consenting adults are both unmarried, then they are forced to marry and can never divorce. If one of them is married, the married one will get the penalty quoted above. If both are married, they are both playing with fire and with lives.
The purpose of the punishment is to put the fear of God in the hearts of the criminals. Saints do not need laws to tell them not to do wrong to others. Certain laws and punishments are made to regulate criminals, while other laws to regulate society at large. Those who think criminals should not pay a price are supporting crime, although that may not be their intention.
Those who think the rapist should get a slap on the wrist at best do not understand the consequences of the crime or do not care for the suffering of the child and the woman, in either case their views are inconsequential.
If I had the power, I would inflict these punishments on the rapists. The minimum a rapist should get is a sharp blow on the neck by a good sword by an experienced beheader. Let a few heads drop and you will see the rate of rape drop even quicker.
Sorry for being so blunt, but this is a serious issue. Those who skirt the issue will pay a price in due time in my view. Those men who stand by while their women are raped in our society are not man enough!!
We should change our laws so women are safe and so that the criminals are on notice to watch it, and let them know we are Watching THEM!!

The only thing that makes sense to me is that rape today is not what it was then. It seems like, from the story of Tamar, that it's really about sexual obsession rather than control or violence as it is today.
The point of the "punishment' is that the man is responsible for her for the rest of her life. Which would be enough to discourage most men. They couldn't just get divorced like people do today. I believe there is a specific provision that he could not divorce her. He had taken her virginity without consent.
I don't like it. But like many of the OT laws, they were restrictions on things they were doing - not approval to do things. Jesus said that some things were overlooked for the "hardness of their hearts." I think this is one of those things.

You must be referring to Deuteronomy 22:23-29. Gods infamous "rape laws."
You should check out Zechariah 14:1-2, where there is a prophesy that one day God will assist in the rape of the women of Jerusalem.
Good times.

Obviously you didn't make up this question by yourself so I would say that the book you got the question out of is proof that that book is not divinely inspired. It is proof that that book was written by men pretending to speak for God (as most religious books are). Most importantly: do you think that is right? Do you think women should be treated like that? Do you think any true God would say something like that? If you answered no to any of those question, you have taken the first step toward enlightenment and free thought. Keep thinking for yourself. Keep striving for true righteousness.

No. I do not think that the victims father should receive $50.
And the idea of a rape victim marrying her victimiser is repugnant.
God had no say in this.

What on Earth is your angle?
By your nickname "rapists should be killed" i would assume that you do detest rapists, but why are you siding God with them?
And where do you get your information?
You either have issues or too much time on your hands.

I am quite aware that in some cultures this kind of thing is common. It should not be. I know of cases very much like this. In fact in some places she ould be killed. Religious beliefs at work again. No this should not be happening.
