Why do Christians say it's pointless to debate about religion only when they're loosing the debate?

I noticed when a christian is winning a debate, they never say it's pointless but when they debate with an atheist and they're loosing, it's all of a sudden pointless. 90% of the things people talk about are pointless. They dont have a problem talking about the pointless upcoming basketball game. I think they're afraid that an atheist might break that lock off they're brain and they may start questioning their belief

Nope. I could debate with an atheist all day. They will NEVER EVER make me question my beliefs. I would rather believe there is a heaven waiting for me where my dead loved-ones are waiting in everlasting life, then believe in nothing as an atheist believes. I think thats truly awful. If they want to believe in nothing, and then at the end of their lives they die and go to hell, then let them. Its their choice. And I highly doubt you can make such a generalized statement about ALL christians seeing as you couldn't have possibly debated every christian in the world.

I do not know what Christians you have been debating, but I would never think it was pointless. And I do not so much debate people as I am inquisitive as to why other people believe what they do and I am always ready to explain the same of myself. I do not see it as winning or losing. True, lots of things are pointless but oh well...thats life.

Actually its POINTLESS to debate about religion because nobody wins...I will never expect that someone will say that my belief (read that as: religion) is the true belief. We all come from the same faith but only our leaders differ in interpretation of the truth and other for their personal advancement. Whats best is to concentrate on reading the bible and other related materials to improve our understanding of the truth. Have respect on other faiths and be humble. Never waste time on having debates, because if we do so,we raise "ourselves" not the God we believe. He wants His children to be as meek as a lamb and not as lions in debate......One more thing, no matter what we do we can never answer all our questions regarding the bible all by ourselves. we can never be as intelligent as GOD......

if their ever losing a debate its because they dont know there stuff. the facts is if christians can not only learn scripture but also can learn the solid facts that prove the bible to the table.they can anwser any, and i mean any question that an athiest or self proclaimed intellectual brings up.there are sooo many things that prove the bible is true heres a link to the truth

also the bible has hundreds of prophecies that were predicted in the old testement and were fullfilled in the new.a mathmatician did the math on the bible fullfilling only 7 of them and the odds were a 1 and 4 quadrillion chance now imagine hundreds not only that but the bible is the only religious book that has acheived that not the kuran not any other and thats fact.

Because Faith is not something you can learn but you must feel. There is no point to make a debate like if you were in the university talking about biology. Usually we christians give up when the people want to use science to understand faith. Its like using faith to understand science...its pointless.

They are just afraid about there religion being wrong. the problem is that they will not give up on the fact that there religion, there teachings, and there way of life is wrong and they are living a lie.
Thats why they say its pointless.

Here's my take on this, there are probably over 350 religion on this earth. what makes you think that one person's religion is right and the others wrong. it's illogical to think that ones religion is right even tho they know other religion are out there.

They are afraid of people who question the religion they either grew up with or are afraid of people who seek the truth,but why and when do people question there religion or other? They do this when they find something odd or wrong with the riligion they believe in by seeing alot of people doing something they know is wrong in there religion yet do it anyway.I for one experience this when i was in the church,reading and understanding my religion about heaven and hell i one day saw this homless guy and asked why is he suffering and why are we not helping him? i did not get a answer form then. i realize that people who was in this religion is only doing this for money and not for the fate of the religion,and on that very day i became one of the people they are afraid of, the kind of person who can break there beliefs and make them question what they believed.

Although i lost my old religion, i became strong and draw my on conclusion on life and what i think life is .

breaking that lock is what all theist fear, rather all religious leaders of each of the major and sub denominations. They prefer people to be conditioned to depend on them on how to think, act, and what to do and when to it. In other words condition people to be brainwashed and be very codependent on religion.

I hope that one day all people will break these locks and question their beliefs and come to realize that religion is nothing more than a scam and a way to exploit the ignorance of people
