get her checked for worms..
if she is a puppy they have no idea how to stp themselves from gorging. you need to stop them and limit their food until they learn how, esp if she was starved before. it will take time to retrain them to eat only when they are hungry.

I adopted a cat from a cat refuge years ago. She behaved this way for a few months and initally she would eat anything. But after a few months she suddenly started to turn her nose up at anything that wasn't of the finest quality - her taste buds had 'developed'. Prior to that she had never had enough food and so when food came along her instincts kicked in - she ate because it might be a while before the next meal came along. With time this will decrease. Feed smaller meals regulary at first and then start to combine them into 2 larger meals a day. Give her things to help with the overeating. A big chewy bone or some of those chewy bone things that are good for their teeth, squeaky toys to chomp on to keep the teeth busy and some pig ears that you can buy from supermarkets or pet stores. Give her things to do besides food, plenty of toys and affection. And be patient. It will decrease with time. In the meanwhile keep everything locked away that you do't want her to eat. Have you wormed her, that is very important just incase she has worms.

Good luck, she sounds beautiful !

PS I just checked out the pictures, she is a darling, an absolute heart breaker. I can tell she is going to be very spoilt with those cute eyes! Adorable!

You may want to take mOmO to the vet. She may have worms or even tapeworms. While she may be having an emotional reaction to finally having food available, she won't realize when enough is enough. If she's eating and not gaining weight, she needs to see the vet. Otherwise, monitor what she eats and keep her on a healthy amount of food. I know those sad little eyes pull at your heart, but some animals will eat long past the point they should have stopped. This can cause dangerous and even deadly internal injuries. Talk to the vet about a healthy diet and have her checked for internal parasites.

What type, how old, any other problems?

Some dogs that had trouble finding food at a young age will develop the habit of eating whenever food is available.

It may also be that someone fed her a lot of table food, and she has never been taught not to steal from the table, counter, your hands, etc.

Pick up a good training guide at the bookstore, or better yet, take her to a set of obedience classes. You will bond better with her, and get to know her better. You will also have a way to correct her when she tries to steal food, and learn how to teach her the proper way to get food.

Good luck, and thanks for adopting a dog!

This is normal behavior for dogs that have been starved. They will eat until they make themselves sick, because most times they think they won't get another meal. What you need to do is watch her when she eats, and when you think she's had enough, take the bowl and set it someplace out of her reach. You need to put her on a feeding schedule, so she can used to eating right.

Is she part beagle? My mom had a beagle that would eat anything and everything...climb you like a tree to eat something that you just put in your mouth. I think this is normal for many breeds...and if she was off the street then this is probably going to be a behavior she may not grow out of. You are the responsible one though...don't let her eat herself to death...no matter how hungry she looks...she probably really isn't.

Dogs will eat until they throw up, it's instinct. When a dog gets older and understands that food will always be available they learn to moderate.

Take her to the vet. She probably needs to be treated for parasitic worms. They can have a very detrimental effect on your puppy.
