The car must be considered a classic if it is in top shape. Classics should only be driven at shows.
If this car is not a classic, how many miles does it have? Did you check to make sure that you will be able to find parts when break downs happen? To be honest, the Maverick was not considered that great of a car at that time. The car is iffy.
If you can find another, you would probably be happier with a different one.

If they car is a manaul and hasn't been particulary kept up, the transmission can be very hard shifting. Other than that they are very decent cars operational wise, they are not the prettiest cars though. That 3 speed manual Transmission is the only common thing I have seen be any troulbe in a Ford Maverick.

First of all the people pointing and laughing. But they where known for bad transmissions and front ends. They had a problem with the gas tank exploding when rearended the fram rails went thru the gas tank. The engines were OK. though. They allso rot the steel was weak and they were a low end car when sold under 2 thousand dollars. If you find a mint one however they are collectible.Nobody wanted them and they are almost gone so pretty rare now but stiil they are cheap. So don't look to get or pay any kind of money for them
