We are not. That is a bunch of nonsense, dreamed up by a religious leader who needed a super strong reason to get people into church and donating. How in anyone's mind can a precious new born baby be a sinner? It's ludicrous.
Adam and Eve made the decision to strive for knowledge - and you get the good with the bad with that - instead of idling in Eden, blissfully unaware. There was not sin, there was a choice - a desire born of innate (god given) curiosity.
This is the ugliest lie about Christianity and I am so sure that Jesus would so totally not aprove of it.

we are not sinners as soon as we are born! but once we learn right from wrong, and choose to do wrong (or choose not to do right), then we have sinned. that tendency to not always choose the right every time is part of being human, and that, i guess you could say, we got from Adam and Eve. but isn't it great to be alive?! its all part of the package: being alive, and being able to choose, and that means sometimes messing up. Being a moral person and doing good works definitely means something to God! He does want us to do good and to be moral. it's just that that alone is not enough to compensate for when we do mess up - for that we need Jesus Christ. He makes up all the difference when we do our part. Sort of like a child wanting to get a bike. Can't possiblly afford it, but dad says if the child helps out and home, gives dad all the money he has (maybe only a dollar, which would never buy a new bike), then dad will pay the rest.

I have read that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. I have a hard time believing that a two year old sins and maybe even a three, four or 49 year old. Sin is a weird concept, primitive, tribal, ancient and probably obsolete.
I also read that as you have done things to the "least of these", the most vulnerable of God's children, you have done it to God. I bet that good works mean a lot to God.
Even more important, good works should mean a lot to everyone, it's the best place to start in creating heaven on earth. I see no need to wait to make things a heavenly as possible. And if we apply it to government the preamble might read, "In order to form a more perfect union..." I think we have an obligation to work on forming a more perfect union and a more perfect human harmony, with God's help and blessing.

Actually -- according to the Bible itself, and what Jesus told his followers -- Both good works & faith are Very important to God. The question -- really -- is whether what we do & what we have faith in, are rooted in God's requirements, as found in His guidebook to us - the Bible ... Or, on something contrary to them. Also, no matter how hard we try to 'meet the mark', we can never buy back the right to live forever. Yet that is God's original purpose for mankind, and it hasn't changed. Your question is addressed in more detail in these Bible-based articles:
What Must We Do to Be Saved?
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/1996/2/1/what_must_we_do.htm
Who Is to Blame--You or Your Genes?

HUMANS--Just Higher Animals? (series of 3)

"Sin is anything not in harmony with God's personality, sandards, ways, & will, all of which are holy. it may involve wrong conduct, failure to do what should be done, ungodly speech, unclean thoughts, or desires or motives that are selfish. The Bible differentiates between inherited sin & willful sin -- between an act of sin over which a person is repentant and the practice of sin." Reasoning Book published by Jehovah's Witnesses
God purposes to do away with both types of sin, as well as death ... as well as provide a beautiful, peaceful, productive home for all who are willing to cooperate in the effort! ... I know there's a saying: "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually isn't" ... That idea almost stopped me once from checking this out. Remember -- "usually" also means "not always"!
"Make sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine."
1 Thessalonians 5:21
NOTE: Some of the articles do, but some don't have live-links to the other subheadings of a given series, or to Scriptures themselves. Links for the priopr are at the top left of the text, wherease links to various online Bibles are

Sorry to burst your bubble but you've been fed the whole enchilada and nine-yards of LIES and FALSEHOODS... really! You must have been taught the Pauline version of religion, and NOT the one taught be Yeshua Messiah/Jesus Christ.
GOOD WORKS ALWAYS mean something to God. That is obeying the Second Greatest commandment given to us by Jesus who said "Love your neighbors as you love yourselves."
Do you really think that GOOD PEOPLE like, say, Mother Theresa who spent her adult life helping thousands and thousands of the sick and the poor, that her GOOD WORKS were ALL IN VAIN?? No way! We can only wish that more people did even a fraction of what she contributed to the lives of many disenfranchised souls...
And as far as "being sinners as soon as we are born"... that is another FALSE doctrine called the "Original Sin". That was first invented by the RCC which allowed the church to justify the baptism of a month-old infant without the usual Indoctrination process that one needs to go through before Baptism.
This process ensures the continued growth of church membership from generation to generation to generation. The poor infant/child/baby DOES NOT even KNOW what is really going on!
There is NO SUCH thing as 'original sin', is all...
Peace be with you!

Actually your good works don't count toward favor with God because everyone is already equally righteous.
As the first man, Adam, imputed sin to the world without our choice, the second man, Jesus, imputed grace to the world without our choice.
You are not born a sinner. You are born righteous. This does not mean you are perfect in this life, but your soul is perfect in the eyes of God.
And that my dear is the way it really is. I think your heart knows this already. (because it is God!)

Because God does not jugde man or woman by their outer appearance, ie their works or being moral. God judges by your heart. You should do good works, that's what it means to be human - however doing them for accolade, or pride is not why you should do them. You should do them because you care as much about human beings as God does. Eve screwed up for all of us, but the story didn't end there. That is also an example of your free will to do and be anyone you want to be

God wants YOU! He sent Jesus to die on the cross to forgive YOUR sins. If you can accept that God did this for YOU because he loves YOU and you ask for forgiveness from your sins - then YOU can have an awesome relationship with Jesus and His father God. Then you will want to live your life for Christ because you love him too. The best part about having a relationship with Jesus is that it's the only way to get into Heaven to be with HIM!
If you have more questions - ask a local minister or pastor about joining an Alpha group - a group where you can ask anything you like and you'll get an answere.

Baby, you sound young...relax. You have bigger fish to fry right about now; for instance:
1) don't get pregnant before you're financially secure
2) don't get any tattoos that will make you look like a cheap whore.
3) don't over eat
4) exercise
5) go to college
6) don't forget to exercise
7) pay cash whenever possible
8) don't go casting stones
and finally...
if you manage to do all this: forget about god because you will
have become your own saviour, your own Jesus.
If you don't believe me, go get pregnant at 16-17 and see if you aren't living in Hell. So the flip side to this is: wherever hell isn't
heaven is. Be good to yourself, respect yourself and love all living things, and if god doesn't find you then---f u c k god. I give you permission to kick his ***.

Good question, artic vixen! Without faith in God our works are dead and useless. God wants our whole heart. He doesn't want us to showboat or compete with others because that means We don't have his best interest at all. We must be totally devoted to God. Sin is Rampant in the Earth. God wants us to make a choice (free will).
