The only advice I could give you is to brush her twice a day for a week and then once a day. There is no "cure" for shedding no matter if the cat has short or long hair.
You could also ask your vet if there is any special food that you could give her to cut down on the shedding but believe me there really isn't any special food that doesn't cost an arm and half a leg to buy.
But brushing really does help a lot and the more you brush the less hair will be floating around the house for you to inhale and get on your clothing.
It's good to know that you really do care about your cat and that you don't want any one to say "give her away" because she is a part of your life now.
Good for the both of you. Take care and happy brushing too.

Unfortunately cats shed...especially when it gets warm out. I have noticed my male 1year old shedding much more lately. The best thing I have found so far is just to brush him at least once a day...more if he lets me. It removes the loose fur and makes it easy to cleanup. I recommend a slicker brush...it has metal bristles that have an angle towards the end. These remove the most hair and trap the hair in the brush as you use it.

My cats lose a bit at certain times of the year, usually summer when it's hot. They need to lose their coat generally but I would check with a vet just incase there are medical reasons. However the best thing you can do is brush her 2-3 times a day with a special comb, go to a pet store or vets. Brushing her regulary will help remove the lose hairs so she won't lose as much at other times. The combs you can get that really work are made out of some type of metal and are quite hard, some cats love them others don't but if you persist they will get use to it. You can get heaps of hair out in one five minute brushing session and the comb collects it all in a ball which is easy to remove from the comb and discard.

Good luck~!

We have the same problem! Our orange kitty has short but very thick fur, which he loves to deposit onto furniture and especially my husband's work pants! We have been giving him that Meow Mix for Hairball control, and also we brush him-a lot! He still sheds, but not as much. Also, I got this tip from my aunt--my cat loves to sleep on the top of our furniture, as does her cats. She suggested I put towels where he sleeps, then, when company comes over-you hide the towels. I wash these frequently, and I also use a lint roller on the furniture-it works better than vaccuuming. Wish I could help more-I am in the same boat as you :)

I have a long haired cat that sheds alllll year round. I give her baths twice a week and I brush her twice a day. Her shedding has reduced a lot.

shedding in excess, more that what is considered normal can be attributed to a dietary issue or skin problem. Take your cat to the vet if you have not done so all ready.

Otherwise as the cat cleans up there will be nasty ugly hairball pukes all over the floor, that's not sanitary. Take your cat to the vet, said a second time.

Go to PetSmart or another pet supplies store...or even go to the store's website first. I know I have seen products that help control shedding. Try the link below. I went ahead and did a product search.

Try changing her food. Go to naturapetproducts.com. and read all you need to know about cat nutrition. Shedding fur can be a sign of poor nutrition.
