Blue jays are territorial yet mean about it. Crows and jays are like 'garbage birds'. They will eat other birds eggs and their young. They will also attack other animals like dogs, cats and barn fowl. I have been bombed by standing to close to a cat that threatened them somehow. They seem to attack in groups, or flocks I suppose. I have seen them chase a cat for 20 minutes or more. And not just the offending cat, a dog or person or anything that the cat comes in contact with!

I m not sure why they re so mean. I ve been feeding the squirrels peanuts and six blue jays zoom in and attack, stealing the nuts. When they run out they slam their bodies into out large bay window and sliding glass doors near the deck (making a loud "BANG"), near the bird feeder and where I put the peanuts. They re pretty birds but they suck! I guess they compare to beta fish only in a birds world.

J.D. is right. I've even seen them bite off the tails of squirrels! When I was little I tried to catch a babby jay and was attacked and pecked on the head by its parents!

they are not mean, they are just misunderstood,

but really, they go after food where ever they can get it and will eat what they can even if it is another baby bird to survive. We have them around our place and they scare away the smaller birds from the feeder we have, so whenever I see one, I shoo it away. Hope this helps.

Because we live in their world and they own their own territory, if you stay out of their territory you wont get picked on LOL!

They're not mean... they're territorial.
They don't want other birds in their area so they chase them off.
