There are two sides to people what is publicly seen and a person's mind where they have problems. Happiness is elusive sometimes and it seems that lots of people are unhappy (as seen by the emergence of so many depression drugs.) Are people really that unhappy or is it that happiness has been conceptionalized so that people define happiness as having material wealth or something they're not? Has the fast paced world stamped out happiness? Are people more selfish? What do you think?

People don't get into trouble because they ask for too much...they get into trouble because they settle for too little.
I do believe that most people...especially in the western societies that litter this globe...and definitely in the cities...have learned to settle for too little. Pettiness and misery as way of life...seem to be on the uprise.
Eleanor Roosevelt said that no one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Well...there are whole busloads of people giving away their consent...their rights as individuals...their own personal power away to anyone who will foster the illusions that pass for their lives. In order to be happy I believe it behooves you to first give yourself permission to be so. I am sorry to say that I just don't see most people nowadays doing that.
Fear is the key...and most give it permission to enter their lives and set up residence. Consquently everybody and everything is to blame for the shoddy quality of their lives....except them.
No moral high ground here. At least I hope not. Just a growing awareness that something is wrong in our society...dead wrong...and it is not getting any better. There is after all a reason I think for the proliferation of zombie films in the last few years. And the zombies are moving faster...no more shuffling and moaning...instead they are running, jumping and screaming. I believe the movies denote a growing population of dead men and women walking...who are in a great amount of pain...emotional pain...and that we as a society are racing towards the precipice... all of us going nowhere fast.
Solution...find happiness for self...surround self with people who are likeminded...then find a way to affect change...so we can be part of the solution and halt this headlong slide into the abyss... instead of remaining part of the problem.
Peace.
