Dogs do go through puberty but they normally go through it around 8-9 months and it's very like the terrible twos in children. What I am going to guess is that he smells a female in heat somewhere. Neutered or not he still has that instinct and they can smell a female from somewhere around 2 miles away. That's why he is sniffing around, and also why he is distant and started lifting his leg. BTW When a dog whelps they give birth. Being a male dog he can't give birth so he wasn't neutered before doing that! I'm just curious what you meant to say?

HI i have had to post this as i have read this over & over.you have put your boston terrier was neutred before being whelped? i carnt understand what you are saying. when a dog is whelped this means he was born. if your terrier was neutred before being whelped. he was neutered inside his mother because he hadnt been born. have you got it wrong?. i have never known this.i carnt get my head around it. a boy puppy as to have the two things needed to be neutred.it takes approx six months before they can be done so how can he have been done in his mothers woom?.but as for the rest of this. all dogs pee squating until they start maturing. and all dogs mature at diffrent time they are like children. some grow up quicker than others. he will start to lift his leg when he is ready.and yes they do have a change in there personalty. its all part of going from a puppy to a dog. best wishes. sammylee,

Your dog would have gone through his adolescent stage when he was just under 12 months old.
At two years old he is fully mature and isn't a playful puppy any more. His personality is bound to be different now that he has grown up.
You could try changing how you play with him and varying the games. Perhaps try something a bit more challenging which involve him having to find hidden toys or treats. This will direct his sniffing on to something you want him to do.
Dogs, like people, can get bored with the same old routine. When they get bored they look for something more interesting to do. In his case checking out all the calling cards left by the other dogs!

There's an outside chance he only had one testicle descended so only one was removed, although I would have expected the vet who performed the op to have noticed and told you. If this is the case the other is still inside his body and really needs to be removed, so its worth looking into.
Otherwise he's probably just reached maturity, you might just have to change your attitude towards him a bit. Treat him less like a puppy. He seems to be interested in scent, so find some scent games to play.
You can try the cup and ball game; you get 2 or 3 cups, hide a dog biscuit under one, switch them around a couple of times and get him to show you which one its under. He gets the biscuit if he's right. As he gets better at it you can use more cups and switch them around more.
If you like rough and tumble games you can hide a dog biscuit somewhere in the front room and play 'warmer, colder'. Your tone of voice when you are telling him 'warmer or colder' is more excited or more offhand, make the first few games really easy for him to give him the idea. When he cottons on he'll be rushing round - but he'll not only be using his nose, he'll be paying attention to you which is what you want him to do. It'll help him learn that even in the middle of a really good scent he mustn't "go deaf" and ignore you.
I've just had a thought; did you get him from someone who told you he was neutered? Or did you get him neutered yourself?

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/IpVEu
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

neutured before being whelped? what a feat! whelping is when the pups are being born!
He should have got past the teenage stage by now. Yes they do have them, maybe he's a late bloomer. If you are having trouble, keep him on a lead when out and go back to basic training. He'll come round in time.

Noot sure what you mean by was neutered before he was whelped. That would mean he was neutered before he was born which is impossible. It does sound like puberty.
