Let the baby determine the amount. Pay attention to your baby's signals of being hungry or full. A baby who is getting enough might slow down, stop, or turn away from the bottle. As long as the baby is gaining weight properly, I would not be worried.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, provides a general guideline and suggests that "on average", your baby should take in about 2 1/2 ounces of formula a day for every pound of body weight.

The most important guideline is your baby's behavior. Babies will eat when they're hungry and stop when they're full. Don't expect a newborn — or any baby, for that matter — to follow a schedule or mathematical rule.

Your best source of information for that question would be your child's pediatrician. Most newborns feed quite a few times per day and take in roughly 4-6 oz. each time.

Again, check with you medical professional.. they've got not only your child's best interest at heart, though all the "particulars" about him/her on hand.

Congratulation on your new addition!

They cry when they're hungry and stop eating when they're full.
