This might seem like a perplexing question, but it does have an answer. Though the Christian who has committed suicide has committed a grave sin, he is still forgiven. But, in order to understand why a Christian who commits suicide is forgiven, we first need to understand what salvation is and what it is based upon.
Salvation is the state of being saved from God's judgment upon the sinner. The only way to be saved is to trust Jesus for the forgiveness of one's sins (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). All who do not trust Jesus alone, by faith (Rom. 5:1; Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9) are not forgiven and go to hell when they die (Matt. 25:46; John 3:18). When Jesus forgives someone, He forgives all their sins and gives them eternal life and they shall never perish (John 10:28). He does not give them temporary eternal life -- otherwise, it would not be eternal.
Salvation is not based upon what you do. In other words, you don't have to obey any Law of God in order to become saved. This is because no one is saved by keeping the Law of God (Gal. 2:21; Rom. 3:24-28). But that does not mean that you can go and sin all you want. Rom. 6:1-3 expressly condemns such action. Instead, we are saved for the purpose of purity (1 Thess. 4:7). Our salvation is strictly by God's: "By grace through faith you have been saved…" (Eph. 2:8). Other than acting by faith in trusting and accepting what Jesus did on the cross, you don't do a thing (John 1:12-3) in order to become saved. Since you did not get your salvation by what you did, you can not lose it by what you do.
What about the unforgivable sin? Is that suicide? No. Suicide is not the unforgivable sin. Jesus spoke of the unforgivable sin in Matt. 12:22-32. The context is when the Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of the devil. Therefore, suicide is not the unforgivable sin.

Suicide is a very selfish act that doesn't consider the people we leave behind and how much pain we cause them. I tried suicide, and I know that when you are trying to kill yourself your mind is so twisted that the last thing you think of is God. Therefore it is rational to believe that a person who is killing themselves rarely if ever repents before their life is snuffed out by their act of suicide. Suicide is denying all the promises of God to be with you when you need Him and it's also taking the life God gave you and throwing it away. It stands to reason then that there is little hope that a person committing suicide went anywhere but to Hell. Jesus Christ's life blood can cover anyone who calls out to Him for deliverance, but in the case of suicide as I showed above it is hard to believe that it happens very often if at all. My mind was only on dying when I tried it and I had no thought of God whatsoever. All sin that a person commits in their life is unpardonable after they die. It could have been forgiven in this life if they would have repented, but after death there is no repentance and no salvation. The unpardonable sin is unpardonable as Jesus said, "in this life and the life to come." All other sin can be forgiven in this life but Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost. Eternal security - the theory that a person is saved once and then can never turn from God and lose their salvation can be easily disproved. Read the following scriptures: II Peter 2:20-22 Hebrews 6:4-6 Hebrews 10:26-31 There are more but they should be enough. If you do a study on all the scriptures you will see that all of them put together including the ones that seem to prove once saved always saved show that a person can fall away from the Lord and be eternally damned. As a matter of fact, it says their punishment shall be worse than those who never chose to know Christ because they trample underfoot the precious blood of the covenant and put Christ again to open shame. Any Christian who is walking with the Lord will not say their life "sucks." There is no way someone can know the Lord and be walking close to Him and be miserable. Further, staying on earth for the Christian is something they want to do so they can honor God and reach out to deliver others from the Hell you are talking about.

I personally don't believe that people who commit suicide go to hell. I cannot believe in a god that would condemn someone for having a trouble soul. If anything god should embrace those souls and welcome them to the afterlife lovingly because they obviously didn't get enough of it in life. I think threatening hell is a way to scare people from killing themselves.
Don't take life for granted. It is a gift you should cherish because no matter how much it sucks sometimes - we live in a beautiful world.
Not sure how it is in Islamic religion, but from what I understand giving up your life for the goodness of the religion is considered an honor and they will be rewarded with a whole bunch of virgins or something.

Suicide is a sin, but "All Sins are equal in the eyes of God." All sins are forgiven if we are saved.
I do not believe that those who kill themselves will go to hell. I believe that they were hurting so badly that they couldn't see another way out. I don't think God would punish them after they have suffered so much. To me, they are much like the prodigal son.
I've always thought of God as a Father - a parent. I can't imagine a parent turning away a child who was in so much pain they chose to end their life.
I hope you aren't considering suicide. I've lost 2 people in my life to suicide and the pain of those left behind is agonizing.
Peace to you.

this question is very complex. I beleive it's a sin, but you don't go to hell automatic. Let me explain. If you read in the old testament, the story of Samson, he requested from God the power to push down two big pillars in order to crash down a temple where he was held captive. God granted him the power and sure enough, the temple caved in killing himself and the phillistines along with him. Does that not sound like a suicide? Yet, I'm sure samson is with God. God is full of grace and knows us more than we know yourselves. I'm not saying everyone that commits suicide is safe, but I do feel that some are just to weak and depressed to face life and that they are forgiven.

I do not believe that suicide means automatic hell. And the most precious thing that God gave us is the right to choose how to direct our lives. I think people who suicide have extra work to do before they can attain salvation but I believe that they will get an opportunity to do so. By the way I am Christian

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, there's no proof that suicide sends you to Hell. But it's sad because we're all created by God. Why would you want to destroy yourself, if God created you for a purpose. I know it's hard to discover His purposes sometimes, and to feel His presence when you feel lonely and depressed, but He's still there. It's certainly not in God's will for a anyone to take their own life. Christ loved you more than life itself. That's why He died for you, so that you could have life more abuntantly (John 10:10 KJV).

There are no verses in the Bible that state that if you kill yourself you will go to Hell. There is some debate on whether you can receive forgiveness for a sin that really concludes when your life is over. Basically, I think that it is just better to play it safe, rather then be sorry later. So just don't kill yourself, and you won't have to worry about it.

Yes it is true. Suicide is a way of running away from your problems. A man truly deserves to die when he has sorted out whatever problems he can in his life, suiciders on the other hand still have problems when they die, thus they are sent to hell.
The muslim suiciders are different. They are commiting suicide for their religion and their god, not because they could not overcome their personal problems.

Suicide is stupid, because it solves nothing. I don't know if it's a sin or not. And I really don't care. But I know I'm not going to kill myself, because no matter how many problems I have in life, I want to keep on living it.
