You might go with a light auburn, depending on your skin tone, etc. Auburn works well for a lot of people trying to make a change. If you want something more dramatic, consider a blue-black. It's very in right now, but doesn't work for everyone.

If you're doing it yourself, be careful! I was actually in the same situation. My hair was brown with highlights. For a different look, I wanted to go dark. I picked a color called chocolate cherry (supposedly very dark w/ deep burgandy tones) and I got bright grape instead. Lovely. Sorry, I don't have a color suggestion without seeing your skin, but just be careful!

You could try a light ash brown. That's pretty on fair/tan skin tones and goes well with brown eyes. Loreal makes a shade line for dark hair called Les True Brunettes. Ultra light ash brown is one of the shades in it. You could try that.

Go to a store that sells wigs and try on several in different colours. If it's a small store offer the owner a fee - especially if she spends time with you helping you choose! Remember when you colour your hair all over you have to touch up your roots often especially if it's a much different colour. I'm a brunette by nature but have been honey blonde for so long I can't remember what I look like with my own colour!

You might also try a temporary rinse that washes out in 6 - 8 shampoos.

A color that is close to your natural color. The highlights will still not be exactly the same color as the rest of your hair though. Have it professionally done, because you will have to have the red pigment put back in before making it darker.

Since you have a fair complextion I advice you not to go too dark, it will make you looks gaunt. And if you go too light it would mean that you have to do your roots every few weeks- not worth the hassle.
There is this new shade L'Oreal just launched in salon that is a dark shade of copper red, Normally your hair would look dark red and in the sun, it turns a fantastic coppery red flame color.
So good luck.

no matter what color you choose to dye your hair you will still have highlights because the multi colors in your hair will take to the dye differently. for example if you take brown paint and gold paint and mix the same amounts of yellow in them you will get 2 different colors. the only way to change this is to dye your hair jet black, but you will still have highlights just lighter black.

Depends on your skin and eye color. Dark skin and eyes, go dark....light eyes and skin, go light. But highlights rock. Just add a bit more.

It depends on your skin tone. If you're african american, dark brown or black. If your Hispanic skin tone or really tan, go for either black or brown. If your Caucasion, Auburn is really pretty or a darker blonde.
