How does someone have to be related to you so that they are "removed"?

they are "removed" thru a divorce in that family. my 2nd cousin married and then divorces. her husband becomes removed

A second cousin once removed would be your mother or father's first cousin's children. Thus the once removed since your parents first cousins are considered your second cousin.

"removed" refers to "by marriage"...so a cousin once removed is someone who is (basically) a "cousin-in-law"

wow...I dated my second cousin that was once remove....

Here is how it works.

Your grandparent and there grandparent where sibliings, then there kid where first cousins, then those kids had kid. yeah I know werid but that is how it works.
