My husband has a full hip replacement, metal on metal. It should last fifteen years. Metal on plastic five to ten years. He was thirty when he had it done and it has been five years now. He has no pain and can't tell he even has a hip replacement. Once he got his hip replacement the doctors told him it doesn't mean he has a bionic hip and hard impact sports( to the body and impacting the ground) would not be a good idea. Like football, basketball and soccer. He is active, rides his ATV things like that and he is fine. He said it was the best thing he ever did He wished he got it done sooner but the doctors wanted him to wait because of his age at the time he wanted to do it (28) and because metal on metal hip surgery wasn't being preformed in our area at the time.

They last around 10 years, 30 is really young, maybe it would last longer since the body is younger but they usually don't do those until people are 75 +

At you age,you probably dont need a total hip replacement, you can get birmingham hip resurfacing surgery. Its a newer technique(4 years old) and well suited for young patients like you.
It is available in UK and India only. Not available in USA.With this surgery you can easily remain pain free for 10 to 15 years and then later plan your total hip replacement aftert that. Two of my patients got hip surgery in India through one company called forerunners healthcare. One was a candidate for total hip replacement and the other was a candidate for hip resurgacing.
Both are doing extremely fine since 1 year.
I strongly recommend you to get your hip surgery in India. You will save lots of money.Orthopaedic surgery is very cheap in India. This company is very famous in India that arranges orthopaedic surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as all surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your hip surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin also got her knee surgery for acl repair in India through the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Taking the stress off your undesirable hip by ability of utilising a strolling help (cane, crutches, walker, even a wheelchair) would help some, alongside with proper discomfort meds prescribed by ability of your health care provider. As for searching after preschooles - recommend both getting help with them (relative? au pair?) and/or putting them in daycare to grant you a damage.

Mine is mad eout of titanium, it's suppose to last as long as I do. That won't be too long. I've had it since 99 with no problems at all. I hope I'm kidding about not too long, I'm only 49
