Ok I can see why she would have to go to doctor to make sure she has gotten all shots. But why is it required for her to go to head start or pre-k? Can they not allow her to go if her teeth is bad??? Why don't they pay for it? Please enlighten me?

Have you ever seen a root canal done on a 4 year old? We recently got full legal and physical custody of my husbands 2 kids and they had not been to a dentist or obviously hadn't had help brushing their teeth. They knew that they had to the front teeth were spotless. First visit and he had 3 cavities and a baby root canal. It's for children like this whose parents feel that because they aren't complaining of pain nothing is wrong or think that well they are just baby teeth they are gonna fall out anyway. No, they won't hold it against her if there is something wrong with her teeth but it's the state way of making sure children aren't neglected. It's the states way of making sure your child is healthy as far as cost I would say I would rather have paid for a cleaning or a check up than 3 cavities and a root canal... much less watch them get done because mommy "didn't know any better. " That was her excuse, if I could've smacked the biotch and gotten away with it I would have.

Please understand I am not saying you are a bad parent just that that is why some states have to require it. And some states will help pay for it. Shop around and it's really not that expensive, our angels are worth it.

Because a lot of children that are starting school have decaying teeth from being on a bottle too long or sleeping with a bottle. The milk or juice sits on the teeth and causes decay. It could also be caused because parents have provided poor dental hygiene for their young children. When a child has decaying teeth they are in pain! The school wants to ensure that your child is healthy and happy so that the school experience is a happy one. If you can't afford to pay for it, check with your local health dept. The ones in Ga. will pay for dental care, as well as the health care, and immunizations of underpriviliged children. The taxpayers are footing the bill, but I agree with this program because I feel that poor children should not have to suffer just because they are born into poverty. Their lives will be hard enough as it is. Anyway, this makes sense to me, hope it does to you as well.

Good oral hygiene is also part of learning...like buttoning up a pair of jeans, combing your hair and tying your shoes...all kids learn these things at this age. They also brush their teeth during preschool with toothbrushes given to them from the dentists to encourage good hygiene habits. Believe it or not some parents not only do not teach these things but also don't do them themselves...this I find appalling. I would applaud your schools no matter what age your children are for encouraging learning, good hygiene and proper manners. Many lack these today in this society.

The main reason is because many parents wouldn't bring their kids at all if it weren't required, but there are other reasons too. One reason they require it is screening for neglect. If your kids teeth are rotting out, it could be a sign that you don't take care of them. It's also to be sure that they are healthy. If the child's teeth look unhealthy, there's a good chance the child's body isn't too healthy.

I haven't ever heard of this I live in KS and as far as I know we do not have to do that. It must be different from state to state. A good dental check-up is a good thing though. Many children do not get the care they need, maybe they just want to make sure children get the best start they can.

you're lower than 18 and can't get braces your self - no matter if you probably did pay for them. Why gained't he take you? you may likely bypass see a dentist by ability of your self in case you grant your dad's dental coverage card. If he's merely straight forward too lazy or procrastinating which could also help you, merely wait until eventually you're 18, get a job and pay for them yourselves. I actually have friends who're of their 30s with braces. it really is alright to have them later in existence. i'm sorry about your dad.

If I were you I would contact your states office of children and family services (it could be under a different name, but it is the office that decides the rules and regulations for day care centers). Ask if the dental visit is required for enrollment in day care centers in your state. It may just be the center itself asking for it, and if I found out that it wasnt a state requirement I would challenge that one! I have never heard of mandated dental visits before....

Oral health is as important as any other health. Also, early symptoms of many health problems can be detected by examining the teeth and gums (respiratory problems, blood issues, etc).
And, there are some parents who would never get any dental care for their children unless the state intervened and required it.
